I know it's super short notice, and I know it's Superbowl Sunday, but I was wondering if anyone wanted to run Mount Herman tomorrow. It is rated "easy" however there will likely be snow on the ground so I am gonna say 4wd is recommended.

I have never run this trail. I am basing my info off of trails off road.

I am new to the Denver area and this looks like a nice easy run up into the mountains.

Planning on being at the Horseshoe Donut store at the I25 and 105 around 10 am tomorrow.

    Anyone interested in tagging along?

Ninja edit: how bout next weekend, Saturday or Sunday? Forgot I'm supposed to go hiking tomorrow.

I'm probably down to tag along next Sunday. I'm in a stock '18 OR. Haven't ridden any trails around here yet, so I'd be down to try something on the easier side like this.

mt herman that goes up into rampart range? its been a few months since i went up there, but the main road is pretty easy up and down. there are a ton of side roads that dead end that make things interesting. not sure if you have a map already, but my gaia gps shows a ton of the off shoots.

Based on my research it should be pretty easy. I am on a stock truck as well. Only concern would be there weather.

Correct! I saw all the offshoots on gaia, not sure what will be open with the weather. The weather is going to be crap next Saturday so that may not be the best time.

Not used to having to plan around weather!

Temps are low but I didn't see any snow. Rainbow falls is a fun area too. My main concern in both places was ice. Not sure what advice for that, air down maybe? I didn't and luckily haven't slid. Full stock here.

    Seems fine... https://goo.gl/maps/4WBk84UQhdnsZy368

(I'd really like to know the story behind that)

I've never driven that road. The internet says it's well-maintained, but not plowed in the winter. You'll find snow and possibly ice at higher altitudes, regardless of weather.

Uphill on hard-pack snow is easier than downhill. I drove Old Stage Road (well-maintained dirt road, passable in a sedan if you're brave, gets plowed but holds a layer of packed snow) from Colorado Springs up to St Peter's Dome a few weekends ago. No trouble at all getting up, but coming down was the sort of stuff where wheels lock up with just a little braking pressure. 4Lo 2nd gear, 100lbs of sand over the rear axle, and off-road tires made life easier for me, but I don't think I could have come to a full stop on a downhill if I wanted to. That drive convinced me to buy chains.

All that said... I might be down to join!
