I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD sport with 4,600 mi, completely stock. Truck has driven great up till now. The truck started hesitating and jerking anywhere between 40-50mph and the steering wheel along with the gas pedal vibrate annoyingly. This is driving me nuts, any tsbs out for this ??

Not sure if it applies to the 2020 but there is a TSB for surging/struggling between 40-50mph. Usually you can feel it when the truck shifts into 5th or 6th gear and the rpm is around 1200rpm.

Here is the thread for it, it lists the tsb being for 16-17, but the tsb is also from july 9 2018. So there may be a new version for the 2020 also.

Take it to the dealer ....don’t tell them about some tsb that may or may not work let them diagnose the truck find the source of the problem .just because some have similar problems doesn’t mean that your truck has the same issue .

I call bullshit on them . I would open a case with Toyota . My truck doesn’t do anything like that . I had auto before the manual one and had no issues .

Unfortunately this is going to be the response you get 80% of the time from dealers on these trucks. Even documented issues, with tsbs they will blankly look at you and say its normal or they dont know.

It almost seems like most toyota techs have never seen a tacoma before.

    Allow me to chime in....

First, go on a road test with the dealer's diagnostic tech (if they have one). Hopefully your truck will act up during the road test. Record this on your phone.

Next you and the diagnostic tech go for a drive in an identically equipped new truck. Here again record your drive on your phone. Make sure you clearly state in advance you're recording each road test. If they balk then that's a clear indication of incompetence.

Then call the Toyota Customer Service Line and create a case. That way you have a paper trail.

Unfortunately as others have mentioned, some Toyota service departments are woefully incompetent.

    Good luck.

So i presented Tsb-0092-20 to them and they looked into it and said they would do it because the truck probably “learned” how i drove and thats what it adapted to doing. They came back and told me that the truck already has the tsb from factory so their alternative was to flash the ecm back to “day 1”... initially the truck was shifting hard and there was a difference but in no way positive... the truck now lags around 40mph and 50mph as well... now i wonder if the ATF may be low. I really hope this is just a software issue and not a mechanical issue with the transmission.... Now i wonder now that since the ecm was reflashed, would doing the tsb now change it to how it really was off the lot since their is no “learned” driving habits??? Any help is greatly appreciated

My truck does this in certain parts of my commute. It's deemed as "normal", but still annoying. However this is not a unique issue strictly to the Tacoma. My mother works for a dealer in town that deals in low mileage newer vehicles. She picks up/transfers vehicles and she states that most of them do the same thing as my truck, no matter the brand. Unfortunately this is going to be the new normal it seems. Hell, even our 2015 Camry will have this odd behavior...

My understanding is that the learned baseline lies within the current version of the shift tables (flash). Once you re-flash it, part of that process is to reset the learning values (curb), then the new version will learn the values and respond accordingly. That said, your ECM will re-gain the OEM shift points as dictated by the version of the flash, which is back to OEM and yes to your question.

Great, thanks. On my next trip to the dealer, I will ask them to do the tsb and hopefully they go forward with it ... ultimately I want to purchase OVtune, have heard many issues with these trucks are fixed with it.

I have chosen not to afford the OVTune but testimony here says it is a good change. When I had this current TSB applied for my 18, it made the truck very enjoyable to drive so I am content right now with the ECM update. I'd like to have a little better tweaked performance but that is a lot of money for me when I am happy with the shift points on my tiny truck now. Fuel mileage means nothing to me. I drive and use the machine as I need. End of story right there for me. It's like asking how much a high-end sports car costs...if you have to ask, you can't afford it....:D...MPG??? Naaaaaa

Best on the TSB application. I think you will be happy with it. I was pleasantly surprised by the change in performance characteristics.

I was incredibly happy with my tacoma when I got it. I come from a 2016 Chevy Silverado... when I got my tacoma it drove absolutely amazing. I couldn’t stop driving the damn thing. I have a daily civic for work but that hasnt been touched for a while now haha. I’m a little worried the dealer may not want to go ahead with the tsb for some reason...since according to them the truck came with the tsb in effect from factory. I dont know. I just want my truck driving how it did when i first got it as it was a great pleasure.

If your truck is up to date, there is no more TSB’s for it. A 2020 Auto should be 04B81, that’s up to date.
The only other option you have is to have someone local to you tune your truck. It usually runs about $250 and has been able to fix many problems like this.

Agree. I answered yes to his question but after re-reading the intent of the question, I say no. To your point Pappy... it is what it is, with current version of flash. I think he is hoping to re-flash (again) to the 92 TSB and re-set the learning values to see if this gets out the herky-jerky characteristical issue, while having the latest (and OEM) version.
