I got rear-ended in my 1st gen while stopped at a light by a guy in a old civic. He got on the brakes but still hit me doing at least 20. He ate the hitch, picked me up and pushed me forward. Busted his radiator and after a thorough inspection, decided I was good. Told him good luck and left.

When I was rear ended in my 99 Land Cruiser, the body man explained to me that the tow hitch on a truck will be the last thing damaged on it, that they’re just extremely stout.

Getting the cops and insurance involved could have fucked up their little irresponsibly party, but it also could have been the bucket of cold water that could help set them straight in life. Plus like others have said it could just as easily have been a kid or someone else they hit. Plus you really don't know what damage they did to you or your truck. You need to cover your own ass these days and let others be responsible for their actions.

Thanks for your opinions everyone, it's impossible to respond to everyone so I'll try to do it one post here.

I'm from a smaller town where everyone (or most) are good people. My judgement of people are pretty bad because I believe the best in people even when I shouldn't. I just turned 22 so I still have a lot to learn, but how I saw people treating each other so kindly growing up made me want to do the same and shaped me into who I am.

For those that are saying those girls could've hit someone else because of me not calling the cops on them, you're absolutely right. They could have hit a mother with a child or something and it would be my fault for not calling the cops on them to prevent such a thing from happening. I didn't think of this at the moment because I got distracted. I was thinking about the conversation between the mom and her about how she has online school because of covid. So if she is in college she's on the right track sort of. College is a much better path than some other life choices. These girls (at least the driver) could be kicked out of school for a dui. What then? So now she would have a dui, past of being arrested, and a drug charge on her record so she can't go to school and can't get a good job. Wouldn't that make her go into a worse drug addiction once her life is over like that? The future of their lives were in my hand. I could either do what I'm supposed to do and call the cops on these girls but ruin their lives, or I could give them a second chance and hope that they realize they need to make better decisions. Growing up where I did led me to picking option 2. I'll probably never know how their lives end up so all I can do is hope that they became better people that day. We've all made mistakes in the past (though not this stupid) and I know personally I've learned from them.

I should've made them call an uber and I'm a stupid for not doing that. If I could go back I would've definitely made them do that. Still kicking myself for not thinking of this.

In Arizona, no matter what age you get your license, it expires at age 65 and then renews every 5 years thereafter.

I just wanted to say that not all of California is Los Angeles or San Francisco. The major cities are bad but outside there are plenty of little small country towns like where I'm from. Everyone would help each other and put others interests in front of theirs.

What if I said El Paso represents ALL of Texas? Wouldn't make sense would it?

I know there are parts of California that are really bad, but I don't consider some bad spots to be what represents the whole state. That's what everyone outside of California likes to do though.

Whiplash can show up years later. And so can a kid you didn’t know you had (or did).

fear of coastal CA is this cashew sized brain mentality that I’ve heard for 30 years. I’ve been to every state there is FARRR worse. Half the south is hooked on meth and batshit religions. Midwesterners are fat af but very kind hearted. New England are yuppie holes. Texas no one wants you trust me. Northwest dumber than dirt. Southwest are angry racist tweekers. Florida Man....What did I miss?

ive heard the "did you hear about california" from so many inbred fox news ignorant type that i cant even begin to count. the whole country is a shitshow.

People want to live in CA for the scenic beauty and good weather. I am not "Mr. Texas" by any means and would franky love to live most anywhere other than Houston, but it has nothing to do with laws or politics. My cousin lives in Oakland. The stuff he sees on a daily basis...I've never seen in my life. CA is out of control. It is what it is my friend.

y’all uptight have ZERO sense of humor and don’t see absurdity of me doing exactly what you are.

Nova Scotia, named after Scotland by the French. Hmm. More bars per capita than anywhere in Canada. Nuff said.

this an an american argument, stay out of it.

lots of good peeps everywhere, a few in Canada too.

You report to insurance; insurance reports to Car Fax; Car Fax reports to future potential buyer; you lose on resale. That’s how it works for you.

There’s a difference between “fear” and “consequence.” If I smoke weed underage, have paraphernalia in a car, drive under the influence, and cause a vehicle collision, I’m definitely afraid of the consequences, but if none come of it, I learn nothing and thank my lucky stars. Consequence leads to change.

I used to be really dumb and I'll say this was me and my friends exact process of thought. We didn't learn anything until it all came crashing down on us. I doubt she took anything away from that encounter. I usually give people a chance to do the right things once. What really would have made me decide to call the cops personally would have been the fact that it wasn't her first time. The fact that with in discussion with her parents its clear that this isn't her first time.

My family started in California and then moved out with some staying there. Your right there are still good people there no matter what other areas look like. I thought i would hate it in the northern US but the friends i made took me in and treated me like family. They way you handled the situation makes me believe there are still good people willing to give someone a break no matter where you go.

getting rear ended with no damage isnt an excuse to throw an already troubled person into a system that dossnt give two shits about her rehab and her life being ruined. thats real talk.

if people want to be saviors for people go help a homeless person or lonely old neighbor, dont have to wait to get rear ended to become superhero. many ways to handle it without throwing her life into more turmoil. although if from arizona likely a tweeker. did she have blue hair???

100% in nyc or any big city cops would not show up for this because they are out fighting real crime and apparent damage is less than 300 bucks.

rec weed is legal in CA. im pretty sure you can buy 6 packs at the gas station too.

im also pretty sure you can drive anything if it passes emmissions. note: burning man.

lastly i would bet 25% of taco drivers drive buzzed 24/7, many of them armed, at least from people on this forum.
