I’ve modded many of vehicle over the years. I’ve learned lessons, sometimes the hard way, about buying cheap parts from Amazon/eBay... as far as lights go, be prepared to do a little extra work. The best thing that you can do for knockoff lights is to seal them. All around the edge where the outer lens meets the body of the light, there will be a gap. Take your finger and a small tube of clear silicone and fill the entire gap all around the outside edge. This will greatly reduce the risk of your lights filling with water and condensation. As far as the LED’s go... it’s a roll of the dice. They may be great and last a long time as stated, or they may start dropping diodes in the first year. It’s just the nature of the beast. And when mounting them, don’t torque them down too tight. A lot of times the lower end parts will use lower end qualities of plastic. You don’t want to break a mounting tab off before you get to enjoy them. And last but not least... make sure they aren’t shipping from overseas! You can change this in the filter, under item location. If you get them from China, they’ll take forever to get to you. And if there’s a problem, you’ll most likely spend more money waiting and shipping than the lights are even worth. Hope this helps in your decision, and good luck with your build! I'm still torn between something like these leds or hellas that others have suggested.

 

You can’t go wrong with the Hellas. In fact, I’m about to buy six of their 550 series off-road lights. Just gotta save up a bit more change before I can pull the plug. If Hella is an option for you, I would definitely suggest you go that route.

 

There seems to be no lumens rating on the Hellas....yes i know it depends on the bulb.

 

Absolutely, most of them are your typical 12v and I believe 55w setups. So you can expect a typical halogen light output. And remember... it’s not as much the bulb your buying... your buying the quality of the lens and housing. You can have the best PIAA bulbs for $200 and shitty housing and lens and you’ll still have a crappy setup. You have a Hella housing and lens, add a PIAA bulb kit later and you’ll have one of the best setups you can ask for. Good things take time, and sometimes that means saving up more $$$ before you get why your looking for. If you just jump on the cheapest thing you find... be prepared for a big let down.

 

There’s also the other option of BHLM. You can deconstruct your lights completely, separate lens from housing. Take the housing to a local paint shop, have them painted whatever color. Most go black, but I’ve seen some color matched to the truck and looks pretty good! Then carefully seal and reassemble. Add a LED conversion kit or some hi end bulbs (PIAA) and you’ll have some pretty dope OEM lights... just another thought. There’s a guy on here @no vtec 4me that does headlight work. Not sure if he can work his magic on yours but worth dropping him a message!

 

You can't do the BHLM without adding a HID/LED projector to the 95-97 headlights. The only thing to paint is the reflective housing.

 

Right... which would be called a Black HeadLight Mod (BHLM). He wouldn’t have to go full on and spend $1k. You do not need to do all of that to do a BHLM. It’s optional.

 

But it's not an option unless he gets a retrofit cause the only thing to paint is the actual reflector which is needed in order for the lights to work. There isn't anything else to paint.

 

Judging by the fact it's an Amazon link, I'm going to go ahead and assume the answer is no.

BTW what is the difference in the Hella E-code and vision 5x7?

 

looks like to much foreground light to be DOT compliant to me
also looked a little high on the garage door, but that might be do to slope

 

Only difference is the sharpness of the cutoff.

Hey guys so I bought the 5x7” 7x6 led lights for my 95 Tacoma sr5 and the housing bracket doesn’t allow the lights to sit flush inside them. But it says they should fit my 95.. do y’all have any idea why it’s not fitting?

 

I got these and installed them several years ago. Great so far. No issues with fitment. Have to have the additional harness with relays. No issues running that from side to side, didn't follow the vid exactly for that install. Mounted relays to existing holes near battery.
