In before “well, ackchyually the stock air box is a cold air intake”

I have an aftermarket CAI and if you’re looking for a performance upgrade this won’t do anything. I have heard the oiled filters can mess with the MAF sensor. I have a dry filter, no issues.

As everyone else has said - time consuming to do the timing belt, but if you pay attention and have good parts, you can do it and save a bunch of money in the process.

Here's a step by step write-up that you can print out for the procedure, and it also includes links to all the parts and tools you need for the job. Several folks have used it on here, and seemed to like it:

It's not interference and everything is simple cause its a Yota, even if you slam it together wrong the only consequence is wasted time haha

I can’t rave enough about these tires. Are they Heavy? Yes. But I’m comfortable running them year round on the 4Runner, now the Tacoma too. Rotate them regularly like all MT’s and they’ll last. I put a set through some serious work this past summer and they held up incredible, No cuts or cracking. Get them! Haha

Done them both. Timing belt just takes time and a few speacial tools help but not all of them are needed.

The rack is a PITA in it's own ways but not too hard.

The biggest problem you'll have is you'll want a nice warm dry place to work. The timing belt takes about 4-5 hours to do. Steering rack you have to get under the truck obviously so you won't want to be doing that in the snow.

    You're in bozeman right?

Not bad. Would be cool with some paint on it. Wonder if they will actually try to make one for 97 hahaha

expensive though shit. My Homer Grill was close to that though I guess.

I’m glad atleast someone’s getting a little taste of winter, it basically went from fall to spring here.

and yes, those grilles are expensive, but similarly priced to the other options I’ve seen that aren’t just the Oem look.

Replaced my valve cover gasket & tube seals (those 3/4 seals had oil leaking into the plug tube and I was annoyed by that.) and while I was at it replaced spark plugs. :)

I thought about it but there’s no ticking or shaking going on. Nothing up with idle, no odd sounds or feels. Decided I’d not touch anything. :taco:

I just did this on my 2003. Couple notes for anyone doing it:

Make sure your cam position sensor is SECURE. Otherwise this happens and you gotta buy another belt, a sensor, and do the job again:

    IMG_3001.jpg

Also make sure not to pinch the thermostat gasket in the housing, had a leak from that requiring a new gasket.

My crank bolt was very tight and it took both me and my buddies strength to get it off and also torque it down. I'm not the strongest but it's 217 ft-lbs torqued down and more to get it off. So have a torque wrench higher than that to put it back on.

I've not had any symptoms the 3 times I've checked and found at least one out of spec each time. Once was a 5vz and the other two the 3rz. It's just so simple to check I do it anytime the cover comes off.
