Reminds me of a big NYC wedding. Average cost is $65,824. I bet an elaborate one would go for $100,000 or more.

Years ago it would be like one year of the bride's father salary.

It’s just sucks because I’ve worked an entry level field technician IT job for two years. I don’t want more entry level help center/field tech jobs that pay under 25K. I’d rather go dig ditches or lifeguard on the local Air Force base for ~35K than do that for 4 more years.

Set up an LLC with a website full of stock photos pulled from the web, attach a friend's phone number to it, when the employer calls have your friend give you a good reference. Boom - work experience

Huntington Gardens in Pasadena will let you have a wedding there, for a permit fee of over $100k lol

My wife had been married previously, so when we got married her dad was like "I'll buy drinks at the reception but I already paid for one wedding" haha

We spent about $10k on ours, all said and done. Pretty small with under 50 people

Speaking of freelancing. When we got married we had a photographer come and take all the pictures and a video. Maybe this was before digital photography, So it took about a month for the photographer to assemble a wedding album. It seemed like a long time I guess. Must have been a painstaking process.

So the photographer called a couple of times to be sure we were still on for the album proofing and to order smaller picture sets.

Yep.. We're still here. He may have been joking, but he said that had been burned a few times by putting together an album and the couple had broken up before he got to there to show the pictures or the bride went along with it and would tear out part of the pictures with the grooms family. Real housewives of New Jersey. High drama baby.

Not after marriage anyway. Somebody I worked with in NY's brother from Brooklyn was taken out for a bachelor party in NYC. This was a long time ago. So they got him drunk and took him to one sex clubs in NYC where it was basically an open orgy. So he went and got into a scene. Somebody had his fiancee's GF bring her into the show and she caught him on the sheets. There was so much momentum around the wedding that they got married anyway. I never knew how it turned out.

Oh man lol, and they got married anyway? That's nuts. Sounds like she's got leverage over him to get whatever she wants for the rest of their lives lol.

We got to see this when it was "Off-Broadway" and the actors would come out and get the audience to participate in the play. It was fun as hell.

Yeah wedding photography is a brutal business, I have never had any desire to get into it and have a lot of respect for my friends and peers from school who did and are successful at it. It's a whole other world really and you're constantly dealing with everyone's wedding stress, no thanks. Not to mention the strategy that comes into play with doing each different wedding and making sure you get what they are expecting to see - of everything.

Wedding photogs can get crazy expensive but I've seen and heard many a horror story from people who were looking to save money and just "gave the job to a friend who's cousin does photography as a hobby" or worse yet, they do that new thing that people do where they just give disposable cameras to all the guests lol. They end up with bad pictures, critical moments missed, or no pictures at all, etc.
