May want to change the oil WAY before 10k miles on your new tacoma.

I started a new thread a bit ago as to when the oil change should be done. Plenty of OPINIONS were provided.
I went ahead and changed it at 3k miles, because common sense is telling me that 10k is too long for a first oil change. Especially if you care for keeping your truck for a LONG time and don't want excess wear.

Also most common engine rebuilds/plenty of OEMs recommend a first oil change far quicker than the later intervals.
So here is the science to back it up.

Even the lab is recommending 5k miles.

    5X the amount of alumnium
    2X the amount of iron
    20x the amount of copper
20x the amount of silicone etc

Now all of this applies to the initial OIL CHANGE ONLY. I will check back as I rack up the miles to see if the 10k interval makes sense.

I would change it every 5k. I believe the 3k oil changes came from jiffy lube to obtain more busine$$ and I think is quite ridiculous . Oil manufacturer also have recommendations based on their testings etc.

I think a change sooner than 3k as per what I did. Wouldn't have hurt.

It says to go 5k and check back. Says nothing about needing or recommending an oil change every 5k.

Mine was around 5k for my first oil change. 1 year from purchase lol. Purchased new in fall of 19, Short commute and working from home a lot during initial COVID shutdowns helped prolong my taco.

At least you used a lab analysis rather than going by the color of the oil.

You'll wind up with proof that 10k + is fine with the right oil.

Or that your motor is flawed. :D

Lol that's just YOUR common sense. Hundreds of initial samples have been recorded here and they were just fine at 3K and 5K and 10K. You have one data point. Good for you.

They want you to do another sample because they silicon level were high. Due to assembly. They want you to do another 5k before checking back. They didn’t say do an oil change every 5k from now on

I have a remanufactured engine and to keep the warranty, i had to do an oil change at 500 miles and then have an interval of 3-4k. Old engine died due to the previous owner's negligence of oil changes so it's better to be safe than sorry.

I should have done this test on my 2018 SR I just sold. It had no oil changes in 41K miles of ownership (lease, bought out, sold to 3rd party). Wonder what that would have shown

Of course it is now "certified, 1 owner, immaculate, truck" for the next owner

I did 10k for my first and every one since. Don't see why a company that built its reputation on reliability would give you unreasonable oil change intervals.

I would love to see an actual study where 3k and 10k oil change intervals are compared on a modern engine.

Or that listening to Toyota engineers recommended oil change intervals is probably more recommended than “internet engineers”

My post clearly defines that this is for the FIRST oil change only. To those of you unable to read.

Yep, had those bright minds chime in when I asked the question on whether it makes sense to do the first one earlier.
This may however enlighten some others as this isn’t some hearsay but rather points an actual lab result vs forum opinion of a stranger
