I have a hard time starting the truck after I stall out in gear.. Anyone else have this happen to them? Happened twice now while in my driveway. Both times I was in first gear, 1st time I had a brain fart and released the clutch while in gear thinking I was in neutral, 2nd time I didn't give it enough gas getting on a ramp to perform the clutch mod. I have to crank 3 to 4 times before it runs a gain. Truck is 2021 with less than 2k miles.

This is a common issue on the MTs. Folks say that cycling the key to Off helps, but I just let her chooch until it fires. Just a second or two longer than normal.

If the engine is on a cold start that will happen.

In my case, it is usually hard to start once fully warmed up, if I stall.

that's exactly what happens. I let it crank a few times until it fires back up. I will try the Key/OFF next time it happens. My wife was freaking out since the truck is new. Thanks for the info

    You're welcome.

I think someone had a good theory about the reason, but I can't remember. Definitely nothing to worry about other than thinking about the folks behind you. Hahaha!

Easy there. Everyone stalls from time to time.

Also, the Stock tune has way less torque at the bottom end than is normal for a V6.

unless stone cold.................fluffy fast idle (drops to reg idle in seconds )

manual trans should move easily low gear

the ECU is tuned to move slightly less than walking pace

That is just not the case with the 3.5l. I lived it.

Cold start is actually a powerhouse. As the OP noted, it is a warm motor problem. Many reasons for this, but off idle torque on the Stock tune is crap. Requires too much slip to get moving normally and the tune is very inconsistent in response. With a real tune, I can roll out normally with negligible slip.

in driveway..........hot/cold unless on a hill

that truck is tuned to move at idle without touching the accelerator

    most vehicles are

when choked down there are systems that were ready to fire.................

    that are then static

injectors that are pressured not injecting

they are then relieved.............. resulting in the reluctance to start

no doubt U will disagree thats ok

cycling the key or simply waiting no harm / no foul

When yo get used to your clutch and shifting gears, the issue will go away.

Yes, happened to me a few times. I turn it off, let it sit for a second and then crack it over for a good 5 seconds and it will eventually sputter to life.

What do you mean by "crank 3 to 4 times"? Are you saying that you need to let the starter run longer than normal? If so, I think that's normal behavior after killing the engine, starting it when cold, and other random times. These trucks start like champs compared to my carbureted 2-strokes and the cars I had in the 1980's, but they aren't perfect.

I'm not sure why killing the engine causes a hard start, but I guess it might be due to flooding of the engine or some soot on the spark plugs due to improper combustion right before it dies. I'm just guessing. I also tend to get pissed at myself for killing the engine and take out my frustration on the truck which might actually be starting just fine. :)

not 1 crank that's 30 seconds long, it feels weird holding the key in the cranking positions more that 5 seconds... more like cycling the key to crank the engine 3 to 4 times for approximately 5 seconds long each.

But ya, it definitely feels like the sparks get wet and needs time to dry off.

I don’t think I’ve ever had to crank the starter for 5 seconds on either of the taco’s I’ve owned. That does seem a bit weird to me

    Definitely strange.
I thought you meant it would take 4-5 seconds of cranking before it caught.

Are you shifting to neutral and have the clutch in when you crank?

I believe I shifted to neutral after I stalled.
