We were in palm desert for the weekend. It was absolutely perfect winter weather. Small chill overnight and downright perfection during the day.

You gave the dealership a bad review over an oil change.......a $40 dollar oil change.......if I was the dealer, I would have laughed and thrown your “bad review” in the trash and just marked you down as a 2%er......feel bad for the service advisor that was forced to call you...what, you blame him for not going to the service bay and lending a hand changing the filter, or filling the oil.....

want to get an oil change done in less than 2 hours, better products and cheaper.....DIY.

I really don't want to get into an argument with anyone about this, but the problem was with him sending me a survey that he expected me to lie about the service on and then trying to bully me into changing it so that he could get his bonus based on a false premise. As I stated earlier, if I had not been contacted about the survey I would have never contacted the dealer again. Further, it was not about the cost of the oil change, it was about the cost of my time which was ignored in spite of making an appointment the first thing in the morning and their promise of a 1 hour wait and "no appointment needed."

I don’t want to get into an argument either.
I use dealer services from time to time, and I also get the surveys.........the service advisor is just a working guy trying to make a living in a not so great job (so I’m not taking it out on him)......surveys are usually done by 3rd party hired help.......
iF I didn’t like the service, I just don’t return......let my money speak for me......IF I liked the Service and especially the Service advisor, then I gladly take MY TIME and help them.
    Different strategies.

As far as I know, @MESO makes them for the 3rd gens and 5th gen 4runners. The 2nd gen mirrors are different from the 3rd gen.

Seems like you are doing a bunch of mental and verbal gymnastics around the point that people shouldn't leave bad reviews. Reviews are there for a reason and if you don't like it thats not our problem.

Second, why am i supposed to care that it isn't a great job? Did i put a gun to someone's head and make them take that job? I can understand leaving a little extra tip if your waiter is a college student or something, but that does not mean that every full grown adult that i don't even know should expect an extra special level of empathy. If you don't like the realities of your career path, change jobs, don't expect to foist your BS on everyone else.

I swear some people just want to believe that everyone else had it easy.

The good news here is that the OP got the truck she needed ... at a price she deserved. That's a win!

What has also emerged here is a pretty interesting discussion about the new world we live in as it relates to customer service. I see both sides of this issue ... but for me what it comes down to is this -- companies have created systems with the goal of capturing the most amount of money with the least amount of money spent. I get that. We live in an age of maximum profitability over all else -- and that all else includes people, the environment, politics, you name it.

The question is how you choose to go about engaging and interacting with the people who are forced to operate in those systems. And there are a lot of them. Whether they are the people you call at the cable company, the guys who cut your lawn, the kids who serve your food (when we get open again) or the service managers at the car dealerships.

Let's be honest. Companies don't care if you call to say something good about their people. They only use this data for punitive purposes. Ever call the cable or wireless company? What do they say ... after this call please complete a three question survey ... Your cell service may have sucked but the company doesn't care about that. They only care what you say about the person on the phone. If they don't get a high rating, they get punished for it. Some lose their jobs. Some lose a bonus. Some just lose the potential to advance. That is what we have now. The question is how do you want to operate in it?

I have no issue with how any responds to surveys. That is their business. But for me ... if I am unhappy with service, I let the person know. I also tell them don't worry ... I won't take the survey or I won't punish you for it because I understand the world you are being forced to operate in. I get the metrics. But I just want you to know that this wasn't good or this wasn't right, etc. You would be surprised how that changes the dynamic. You build a friend that way. You get better service. Frankly, you get things that you would not have received because those people ... the hard working ones operating in a system that has very little respect for them ... also have a lot of leeway to take care of customers.

My BMW dealer is a classic example. People yell at those guy all the time. I mean really yell to the point it is absolutely crazy! Yes, I have had to wait. And, frankly, they have made a few errors. I connected with them and said look ... I don't want to ding you on your survey. I get how the game is played ... but this is wrong. Lo and behold, my cars comes back with the interior detailed. A BMW coffee mug sitting in the cup holder. Stuff like that.

Just throwing out the idea that there is another way ... but to each his own ... I also get the idea of blasting someone on a survey ... I just don't do it.

Let me guess “Clemson keg stand”, you and the other guy (Barrister) would have stomped and yelled and made a scene if Julia’s situation had happened to you.......congratulations, it wouldn’t have got you the truck.
Get a clue, use the example of Julia, listening to a few guys (probably older) that gave her good advice, she worked the problem, didn’t lose her cool, and allowed the Management of the Company to give her a “once in a lifetime” deal.

I’m like the BMW owner who posted, I have a Beemer as well, and I do the EXACT same thing as he does........it amazing how much better service I get from my advisor, when there is some jackass making a fool of him or herself at the dealer.
i always say hello, call them by their name, say please and thank you (2 words disappearing from the English language).......the BMW guy gets it.....those surveys are used for punishment, not for improving anything.......when I receive great service, screw the survey, I stop by the shop/dealer Manager .

So go crazy on those surveys giving bad reviews, I like getting the extra perks and ocasional loaner car being relaxed.

I beg your pardon, but you have totally mischaracterized what I said as well as what I did. I caused no scene at the dealer. The dealership sent me a survey that I did not ask for, but I was going to tell the truth. Then I was called by the service manager who tried to bully me into revising it. I refuse to lie about very poor service to boost someone’s bonus at my expense who does not deserve it. I am not looking for perks by being their lapdog. I am looking for a job well done and done with integrity. Please and thank you are the first words out of my mouth, but in response to poor service it is “no thank you.” Try it, you’ll like it. And as a BMW owner as well, I know how to treat people and how I expect to be treated. Incidentally, if your BMW is a car, the term is “Bimmer” not “Beemer,” which is the term for their motorcycles.

Just for the record ... and to introduce a little levity here ... I don't say bimmer, bummer or Beemer... and as soon as that new, smaller Genesis SUV comes out I am trading in the X3 ... HA !

    :)

By the way, really interesting notion ... there seems to be a ton of BMW drivers that also drive Tacomas ... I mean like a lot !

Are you sticking with 40 000 mile oil change intervals with this truck or changing it up?
