I have an inquiry into my local Nissan dealer. Never thought I'd be saying that. I'll post info if/when provided.

Nissan appears to be providing great value in the mid-size market. Low financing rates, new design (not from the early 2000's), a new 3.8L v6 + 9 speed auto, a boxed ladder frame, optional skids, Bilstein shocks, rear locker, etc. I'll reserve judgment until we see how the pricing is structured, though. I'll need a strong incentive to be telling others I drive a Nissan, let alone a Frontier...

Toyota will put a 7 speed in for the 4th gens in 2026.
When you divorce the brand image from the value it tends to shine a little light on things.

Their intro videos basically break it down - Nissan KNOWS the mid-size truck game is image and lifestyle based - and they made a truck to compete in that space. It looks GREAT and comes with features that the market wants.

I’ll admit, it is a good looking truck but the interior still looks cheap...typical Nissan and still seems a little small...IMO. :)

I don't think either interiors are particularly great, but I don't mind the Nissan. Lower plastics look cheap, not a huge fan of the steering wheel. Tacoma appears to have a more refined plastic and soft touch points. Curious to see the materials used in the Nissan, as well as the Zero Gravity buckets.

No money, all went to truck...
I called the number but an old lady that didn't speak much English answered. No Mike Jones.

Gosh, so sorry, I was just excited, goodness.

You’ll still be able to swap 80% of the parts over from a second gen.

Looks like a tacoma on the outside with a Ranger tail gate and a Colorado/TACOMA interior

I like a lot about this new 2022 Frontier, however, due to a lack of details about the engine, I wouldn't buy, I suspect its got those plasma welded cylinder liners, not the tried and true cast iron cylinder liners, welded cylinder liners are way to thin. No thanks. The Ford F150 5.0L has these plasma welded cylinder liners its not faring too well at all.

The power train is already out in the 2021 frontier, no?

Same new 3.8 v6 in old gen body 2020-2021 and same new 9 spd trans. NO details on it makes me nervous to buy. Direct injection with no port injection will cause intake valves to carbon too. I may wait on the 4th gen Tacoma, if I don't like the 2022 Tundra. I suspect the 3.8L block is a throwaway block, with the welded in cylinder liners which are super thin. Too thin to provide structural support of the cylinders under load.

I will absolutely be test driving one when they get here. I want a new truck (keeping my 2nd Gen Reg Cab forever) and I just can't stand the looks of the 3rd Gen grill. This new Frontier looks 100 times better than the 3rd Gen Tacomas and has 310 HP. I'm going to give it a look.

    Who?!

I'm excited for competition because it'll force toyota to do some kind of updating id like to think. But having driven many nissan products im very wary of them as they age.

The new Frontier looks nice. I'll definitely consider it when I'm ready to get rid of my 2nd Gen. Sounds like a much better drive train than the 3rd gen Tacomas.

Truck looks nice. I miss my ‘95 Nissan Hardbody. Definitely can’t say the same about my ‘06 Frontier. I hope they fixed the damn turning radius. Last generation was a pain in the ass to park.
