Good thing when your uncle owns a machine shop you get all the free scrap you want to practice welding.

Comparison of my old Miller hood and the new Yes hood for anyone wondering.

I replaced both lenses on the Miller and installed the head gear with a direct replacement from Hobart so I could give them a fair heads up. Right off the bat, the Yes hoods viewing window is well over twice the size of the Miller. Having the controls on the outside is handy but I wonder if they can be bumped out of place if I’m in a weird position under a truck. The Yes hood is slightly heavier (not by much) but the plastic feels flimsier and has more give. The head gear especially feels a lot flimsier. I noticed the ratcheting teeth in the side knobs were a lot less pronounced than the Miller/Hobart. My suspicion is that they’re going to wear down faster too. The head gear had two straps going over your head along with the ratcheting headband (compared to the Miller’s single head strap) and does feel a lot more comfortable and secure. That may be important on long welding days. The Yes hood has a narrower profile but stands off further away from your face than the Miller I suppose that’ll help with mouth breathing and fogging up the lens on cold days. The narrower profile bumps into my glasses a bit but I don’t think that’ll be a problem since your movements are somewhat limited when you’re actually welding. In all fairness, I wear Wayfarer style glasses so they’re pretty wide. The Miller lens has the common green/yellow tint to it while the Yes hood has a slight bluish tint that gives a truer color when not activated (one of their main selling points).
I haven’t welded anything yet to compare the two but I’m actually excited to try the bigger window and blue lens. I’ll update my review once I get some time under it. No regrets on either one but at least I have a spare now in case someone wants to borrow it.

So I tried what @81Trekker had suggested before when cutting mounts off with a plasma. I cut off the brunt of the mount and then turned the amperage down and angled it at the frame a bit, and washed away the weld. Turning it down ensured I didn’t cut into my frame. Anyways, took away a bunch of it and 13 min with a fresh flap disc made quick work of the rest.

No, cutting it off actually lol putting an archive on there to get the lower mount up higher. Their kit gets the upper mount a good few inches higher.

Off topic, I've been following a build on "B" is for build, a lambo 4x4 and they're using a mini band saw. I thought you might be interested. Its a cool pc and probably great for quick cuts on 1.625 or less tube. Cheap too.

That’s pretty slick and would be super convenient for those few quick cuts where you don’t want to drag out the big boi bandsaw! Thanks for sharing

Yes exactly. The older I get the harder it is to wheel that damn thing. LMAO. I make dozens of 1" or 2" brackets. Dozens. That thing would be excellent for that small work.
These guys build some strange shit and this is no different. BUT. The suspension is completely designed out of shop and CNC cut. Then shipped and welded on site. Everything. Including the spindles. WHAT????? A spindle that's fabricated? STFU. LOL.
