Change the Tacoma out for a high-roof transit? I don't fit in a 5ft bed.

    Do they have Transitworld though?

Dont worry about it, I have plans.

    :fistbump:

Just finished the order for my (1st) 20' shipping container. Getting delivered on Thursday.

    :bananadance:

Might just end up getting 10 of these, and making a house of them. Looking that way tbh.

Currently 40’ containers are $3200 plus $300 shipping at 10 of those you are just under 40K, with all the work to be done and land purchase - it is possible to fit under 250K budget. :spy:

Good luck purchasing wood right now to build a framed house. It is crazzzzy atm.

10 x 40's might be to large for us. There will only ever be 2 of us, and dogs. Not really sure yet on size. That is looking like the route we are going. Just figuring it all out right now.

depending on the layout, you might need only 5 of those instead of 10.
Save a few bucks by getting some beams to fill in the space for a larger room/ garage.

But remember, at the end of the day, The Ontario Building Code still dictates what needs to be done to that shipping container home for the city/ town to not fuck with you.

This is way way way to large for me and my wife.

We want something small and cozy. We use 2 rooms of our current home. We are not going to get something bigger than what we have. It is going to be small, that is what we want.

The shop will be twice the size of the house, I am sure. :cookiemonster:

My brother is an architect in Montreal, so I might get a deal on a nice design :burp:

That's 3 maybe 4 for the house and the 6 or 7 left for the garage/shop right?

    that place was just used house as an example (which was overkill IMO) that you don't need to put containers end to end like this;
(this one is actually the one in Hamilton at the bottom of the escarpment)
    Hamilton-Shipping-Container-House-Rear-View-2-Storstac-845x662.jpg

but you can span areas as large as you'd like to make it as you wish.

If you build a garage, you better have some kick ass air-plane hangar door type thing or do what the Overland expedition guys have Where the doors fold up

This is more the idea we have for the house, the garage will have the containers on each side with the beam in the middle. It is like you are looking at the same things I am :cookiemonster:

With a beautiful outside wood fueled boiler, so you have unlimited hot water, in floor heating for both teh house AND shop :militarypress: Can even run some tubing up on the roof to keep it free from snow.

I have been thinking about this for years, looking good to go now :bananadance:

i am looking at the same thing you are
    :spy:

but in all reality, i've spent months seriously looking at building a container home. Was talking with my structures teacher as well as my legal teacher for when i took Civil about structural loading, protection from snow, thermal insulation and fire proofing, plumbing, electrical, legal permits and inspections, the costs and prices and movement and yadda yadda yadda... It's a steep slope.

I have an idea set in mind in terms of design and the fact i've wanted to do this for years as well. It's just no one in the family is ok with "seeing" a shipping container as a house and don't want to give the idea the time of day lol.

Lots of others have done it, so I have been reading about what they have done.

    Doesn't seem that hard tbh.

Except that thing cost over half a million and remember that you can't get a mortgage on land so you need cash upfront

Couple years ago the hospital lottery in london gave away a container house in grand bend as one of the prizes. Idk how to post the pic but it's on the interweb

    Mostly stock for now...
I'm also in the "sell the house and get the heck out of Dodge" frame of mind. We have been actively looking along the Hwy 7 corridor between Havelock and Perth - as far south as the 401 and as far north as Bancroft. We're either looking at buying a workable handyman special or vacant land and putting something on it - either Modular / PreFab, Shipping Container or Quonset Hut - The idea of a Quonset with lots of glass on the ends is very appealing too...

Yea I am saying shipping container. My brother is saying for the size we want, a cottage layout would be pretty cheap to build. :notsure:

It is up in the air right now exactly what we are doing, just have the idea and are going forward. I feel if I dont move forward with it now, I am going to get stuck where I am forever.
