I got this unit used with no instructions. Unit works perfectly, plug and play, BUT, it drains the battery if I leave the truck parked more than 36 hours without starting. I tried it twice, both time, drainage.

Then, I noticed the bare yellow wire marked +12 Battery out. Some research has told me that the yellow wire has to be connected to a constant 12+ source (bat).

Could this be the reason for battery drainage?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm just spitballing, but it would make sense if that yellow wire is a switch of some sort. If it doesn't detect 12v it'll shut the amp off. Not connected it'll just think the car is on and drain the battery.

I guess just find a switched 12v source and try? I do not want to be responsible for frying your new to you stereo tho.

If I had bought at Crutchfield, I have cruised their website, nothing specific. I am not stereo literate, but I can follow instructions. This unit came out of a 2nd gen Tacoma, all the plugs are bing bang boom. I am gonna try the yellow to battery and see what is...frankly, the stock unit sucks for clear signal output, the Nav unit produces much better sound...

I would guess the constant 12v would be for memory.

I can't offer any help, but I would like to talk about your choice of footwear.

Hmmm.....guessing at wire connections. I'm sure nothing could go bad..............ai ya.

You should consider digging up a wiring diagram from a 2nd Gen with a Nav HU. It will have the connections and wire colors.

Regarding footwear. My choice is a good set of RedWings.

<edit> Just looked at the wiring diagram for my '06 HU connections. The only yellow wires feed one of the speakers. This conflicts with the label on the yellow wire on your unit. Probably need to find the wiring diagram of the model year matching that HU.

Okay, hooked up the yellow wire to Batt 12v+ and testing now. It did power up the two auxillary USB leads that didn't work before (they work with the key out, so I know the power is coming from the new 12v+ hookup), and hopefully this will stop the insane power drain by switching the power off to the unit. I will know tomorrow...

Still a 910 millamp draw, .91 Amps. 36 hours, which comes to about 32.5A hour total draw. I went overboard with my new battery, 840 CCA. The output on this unit is clear and nice compared to the stock factory unit. If it persists, I will put in an inline cutoff for radio only. Pulling the fuse works too...

Be aware. CCA is not the same as Ahr capacity.

CCA is Cold Cranking Amps at 0F. This is the "power" the battery can deliver at 0F

Ahr is the "amount" of energy stored in the battery. Say it has a 100 Ahr capacity. That means it can deliver 100 A for 1 hour or 1 amp for 100 hours.

910 mA parasitic draw is pretty high. Battery will discharge quickly.
