You'll probably be fine with a regular cab. If you do some hard off-roading or rock crawling with the camper, I would recommend planning for it at the same time you relocate your rear shocks. If you didn't even think about or consider this when you had the much heavier Flippac, then you'll definitely be fine.

In my opinion, it's pretty necessary for the 1st gen double cab with a camper that has an overhang above the cab as it really emphasizes how much the frame flexes.

Good idea keeping the truck stock. I wouldnt touch much. If you want to reinforce the frame you should do a plate on the outside and not box it.
Boxing it requires relocating shocks etc which imo if you like stock is not worth it.

I’m at 7ft exactly. 33s on 3” front and 2” rear lift until I get the rear swapped to 3” next week. Not gonna fit anywhere if I try to fit 35s.

I know my front lift is for sure not 3" as I'm on the 3 or 4th 6112 notch. What's your measurement from the ground to bedrail?

Thanks. As long as we're talking, my friend put the below OME kit on his 1st Gen extra cab when he got his Vagabond Drifter. One of my rear leafs is dead so I'm considering 1) just replacing the leafs, or 2) going with this kit... or I guess 3) I don't know. Any advice? Like I say I mostly run stock, my regular cab has Bilstein's that are still in pretty good shape. As to off roading, I like to find long dirt roads leading into wilderness areas, occasionally these are very rough and I will bottom out once in a while if I go too fast... but no major off roading or rock crawling.) Leaf pack or full OME kit?

Usually when we have snowstorms 84 shuts down a lot. I’d pay attention to any road reports. You can also check www.tripcheck.com for live feeds around OR. There’s a lot of traffic cams set up in our state.

    none, yet!
Pay close attention to what the weather will be doing near La Grande on 84, that pass is an area that will close pretty often when it snows and was something I had to keep an eye on when I was recently moving out here from Utah.

I ran that kit (for 03taco) about 35k miles. It was great for the $. My pack started getting "tired" at a certain point so I inserted the EMU ad a leaf. It still sags a little in the back, and I'm afraid I will have to go for a more robust pack, like Deaver from what I hear.
I have a shell, RTT and wooden drawers so quite some weight. I'm not really confident in leaf spring knowledge to advise. I can just say that the leafs will last a while and get saggy at some point. Not sure if that is true for all leafs, or if you're better off buying a different pack that will last longer. That kit is "cheap" for what you get so maybe thats a good start.

Dakars will do the trick and hold the weight 5-700 depending on they add a leaf or not. Now I think it's medium-duty and heavy-duty. For regular work it will do the trick. The Icon RXT is better or Deaver which i would choose over those. it more but you pay for what you get. They have different heights too. Id you call them they be able to make a pack that fits your needs exactly. light lift but heavy action. I cant wait to get rid of my Dakars and will get a Deaver pack custom setup for the truck. I put it off so I can get an accurate weight with the X1.

    My question:
What is the root cause for my dakkar pack sagging.
    1. Am I operating outside of its load range (too much weight)?
    2. Does the spring simply start to flatten overtime from fatigue even within the recommended load range?
If #2 is the reason how do I ensure the next pack can last longer?

My guess is I was on the high side of the load range for the Dakkar pack, and it slowly wore it out. Thing is if you get stiff springs, you get a shitty ride.

I think my drawers were the straw on the camels back for the Dakkar lol

Any opinions or experience with running decked drawers in conjunction with the SP? I would be interested in the residual clearance to the underside of the tent platform. I have a 2019 Tundra so not sure what to expect with head room with or without the decked system.

This was my original idea for the buildout, but then I was seduced over to the 80/20 custom build, but now reconsidering the decked due to simplicity and getting that flat surface for easy kid sleeping.

I have similar dilema. Spent a lot of time building my drawers and I love them, but the 80/20 set up makes more sense for this...

The OME Dakar leaf springs with add-a-leaf and the OME greasable shackles worked out well for me on my 2003 DCSB with the Drifter. I had "no" build" though and ran lightweight for over a year and saw no sagging. I would guess that if you have a mild interior, fridge, any batteries, water, etc constantly in the bed, then you're probably at or exceeding the Dakars causing them to wear out.

I agree, getting back a portion of the full bed height is a big deal especially in use cases where you might be standing up in there to cook or change or whatever. I’m just not sure with a family of four where we would truly use it in that fashion.
