Thanks for the detailed response. I did well with the vinyl decals but like you said, now that I'm wheeling more and even one of the tire guys have started to knick it and I don't plan to replace the vinyls so plasti dip or spray is the easier route for me.

What is the note card method? How many cans did you need for all 4? I'll be taking them off since that makes sense to not get it all over the other truck components.

I also dipped my wheels. If you want to take it on id check out the dipyourcar.com wheel kits and videos of how to get the best results. They have tons of colors and come with a cleaning spray for the wheels and a dip release spray for the any areas that you might have some over spray. I used a can per wheel and they look very nice after 6 months. My only recommendation is let the wheels sit and dry for a couple hours before reinstalling them or the lugs will tear off the dip. I had this happen and had to respray a whole wheel. Id go plastidip over spray paint any day.

Mine are similar. Every time I rotate them I hit them with a few coats of black and then glossifier. I don't even mask the tires :notsure:

I am probably going to pop my emblems off and paint them red soon but I didn't do the center caps. Still looks a heck of a lot better, but it's also not a show truck. Definitely some small blemishes but, again, :notsure:

I'm looking to get either 2 more, or a set of 6 of something else entirely. I don't care what they look like those, I just want 6 uniform wheels. 1 carrying in the spare well, one in the garage - when I rotate, the rear come to the front, front come off, and the two get put on the rear. Also allows me two spares for trips, and I can hit the two with plastidip easier while they're off

TPMS will be a PITA to figure out. And when you need new tires it'll be 6 instead of 4 :puke: BUT I'll have more life on a set since I'll be burning through 6 instead of 4.

My only concern is that the rear (or front) will always be slightly larger in diameter since they'll have 5k less miles on them. Not sure if that would F with the TC/Diffs in 4WD.

rim.jpg I like the stock rims. Running skinny KM3s and added vinyl to black them out. I've beat them up and other than some gouges they've held up fine. I'd be pissed if I bought new rims and dinged them up like I have these. Grinder, vinyl and some touch up grey metallic Testor's paint, they're good as new.

To be safe I'd get a can for each rim. I think I only used 1/2-3/4 of a can on each one. There are plenty of youtube videos on Plasti-Plasti Dipping your rims just check one of them out. @PopishMetalFab also had a good point above about making sure to let your rims dry before putting them back on the truck. The process isn't hard at all but it can be very time consuming if you are doing one wheel at a time, make sure you have time for your wheels to dry.

An example of the note card method is below, it keeps it the spray from getting on your tires.

This is what I didn't like about the Vinyl, it looks like that may be a little bit of Chrome peeking out?

I'm OCD and I would have little spots like these constantly with the vinyl stickers I tried.

I completely agree on not tearing up new rims. I like that I can just respray any part of my rims I ding or scrape up.

New wheels? I priced a set of tires and wheels, at Schwab. I've had an account with them for years, and figured I'd look into a full set for the new toy.
I like schnazzy. What I wanted, $2,400.00 plus. NOPE, Not happening!! I don't plan to go nuts taking this new truck out there in the rough wild.
I picked up a set of 17" new take-offs from a 5th gen 4 Runner, with the lug-nuts for $120.00. So, with the tires, I'm set-up for less than $1,200.00

    Thanks

90123 is right about some of the polished area showing through, but that's on me rushing it; the vinyl is plenty big enough to cover. I ordered extra for the occasional rock rub. Cheap and low maintenance.

I'm staying with my stock wheels, jumping 1 size up on tires to test run a new product line we just got in. The Terra Raider AT KU-257, 3 ply sidewall, 3PMSF so should work good in the winter and pinned for studs. Comes out of the same plant Kanati Trail Hog AT does.

I ran 255/85/16s with stock OR wheels to avoid rubbing. Any wider and id have to run spacers or get different wheels.

Stock OR wheels FTW. I think they are pretty sick wheels and well built. Gives it that oem look.

    Truth.

    Truth.

Well. Maybe their version of 'proper'.

Yea. And yet all the lemmings flock to black wheels. Because everyone else has them too.

Steelies rock. In street mode you can even spiff 'em up a bit. :D
