Definitely not a bad way to go. You're not committing to anything, just asking for information. Even a slight change in rate can make a big difference in downstream interest overall, provided the savings outweighs the refinance costs

When i did mine, it was all through the bank. They looked up market and comp values first then the appraisal was just a confirmation before we finalized, they just walked around outside.

That's a good point. My current job has a weird blend, so I guess it keeps me reasonably grounded?

Though watching the swings in diesel prices for work has been eye opening. Let's me get a mindset for future plans

Yup. And in @Slashaar case, that change in interest can drop it 10-20% per month..on home loans even .5-1% can be significant. 2%+ is gonna be worth checking out

@Slashaar Punch in numbers here and it’ll give you an idea

It’s still weird for me going from traveling every week to now being at home 100% with the new job. I’ll probably eventually go into the office once a month or something just for a change of scenery

It’s crazy how much money ends up going to interest and taxes when you start looking at the amortization tables and the life of the loan.. pretty soon that $150k house actually cost you $300k..

Yeah, that sounds like quite a change. I don't really have an office to go in to; I'm either in my home office or on the road. Not a bad job for an introvert

Yup, that's exactly what kicked off my current plan. Refinanced in 2016 on a 15 year note, currently on track to pay off in June 2024 because interest is a bitch

That’s what I did for basically 8 years. In 2017/18 I had 200+ nights a year in hotels. Before that I was usually 75-100ish.

    2019 it cut way back. 2020 I think I had 4 lol

lately I go through like a tank of gas a month.. maybe.

Mine wasn't quite that bad, but was close. I had maxed out Holiday Inn rewards levels within my first two years on the job

Today I had a meeting in Nebraska, three hours each way. That's now a day trip rather than the overnight it would have been a couple years ago

I definitely learned how to take advantage of all the rewards programs. You can get a ton of stuff if you pick one loyalty program to use (hotels / flights / cars). I’ve got more IHG points than I know what to do with. My AA miles expire in June so I need to make sure to buy / transfer some points so I don’t lose all those.

I’m on 75/40 fiber in the middle of a field. I’ve been better connectivity than people in town do. It’s kind of funny. Few guys I work with are in the Des Moines metro and their internet is total garbage.

Very true. I don't fly much so I haven't accrued any air miles, but I haven't paid for a stateside hotel for my last three vacation trips
