99 Tacoma Idled to High?

I have a 99 with a 3.4 v6 and its idling around 2000 RPM. It seems like it may be a MAP sensor because when i come to a red light the RPMs start jumping up and down. I did try a new TPS but it doesn't even make a bit of difference. Any ideas would be good! Thanks!

 

Try cleaning the IACV, it worked for me when my idle was screwy. Worth a shot

 

I think you just need a tw sticker and that'll fix all your problems. Lol. But in all seriousness try the sensor.

 

I think you may mean MAF (mass air flow) the one just after the air filter not MAP (manifold absolute pressure).

I agree tho, that is a very common symptom for a bad MAF sensor.

 

I would look either at your spark plugs or maybe for a vacuum leak. My '99 idled high as well. The few times I had problems with my MAF sensor, the only real symptom was when I pressed on the throttle it would take a few seconds to respond. It would feel like it fell on it's face when you went to take off.

You might give seafoam a try. My 2.7L would idle at 1000rpm then drop to 500, then jump back up to 1000 over and over again. That's after it was warmed up. After I ran 1/3 of a can of seafoam through the vacuum assist line the idle smoothed out to 750 rpm after it's warm.

 

I'll be sure to do all of the above so I can eliminate the problem!

 

We need to get together wed and look at this, because i just noticed mine is idled a "little" high, around 1k rpm at stops. aint it suppose to be around 700?

 

It also depends on whether the engine is warmed up. Mine starts at 1.2k usually. Higher if it's really cold. Then the idle goes down as the engine warms up. Once it's warm it's 750.

 

Okay, it was about 48 deegres here and it hadnt been driven yet when i noticed it, ill pay attention if it idles down when it warms up.

 

it turns out that i just have a worn out, tampered throttle valve. I got a guy willing to give me the part and put it on for a few dollars.

 

Ok found the problem! I got a friend to put a whole throttle body on and didn't do anything. So we looked and found the throttle valve was corroded, cleaned it up and was idling wonderful.
