I'd definitely buy it again. It is a great upgrade for spirited driving and cruising! I always look forward to driving my truck now.

Icon stage 3, Method NV305, 33 Ko2,Llumar IRX tint, OV performance 87 tune, Focal k2 and polyglass rears. Jl audio amp and sub. Dasaita PX6, remote X starter, bakflip cover, train horns, trd pro grill and front camera, AMP research power steps and Magnuson supercharger on order!
I would definitely get it. Went from my 17’ Audi A6 and loved it and now I get that feeling back with the supercharger. Went from OV 87 2.0 tune and that was the best thing I did to my truck. OV tune is mandatory to restore the Tacoma to the way it should of came from the factory. If you can get the Magnuson then do it!

With a heavy truck and big tires the SC makes it drive like stock again.

I also came from the OVT 2.0 with 4.88 gears - having that the truck struggled going up hills. But now with the SC it will cruise in 5th/6th comfortably

So yes, I would buy it again but there is still some room for improvement.

Has anyone done a 0-60 test so we can get a better idea of the actual power gains?

6.38 seconds is my best. Axle hop is the limiting factor for me. The third-gen 6mt does not like launching with the extra torque lol.

I asked them about cat-back exhaust when I was ready to submit for calibration - they said it would not be an issue - only issues were headers (dump tubes) and y-pipe exhaust mods. I have the TRD Pro Cat-Back - probably got me one extra pony! But it sounds nice!

Driving west on I 70 will be so much easier with this. Towing or not towing. As for local city and street - you could live with .vft - but having the extra power of the SC is like having 4x4 when you only have 2x4. URD makes a SC - I looked at it but they use the same unit Mat did on his experiment. Rotrex 38. Rotrex is a player but has had quality issues and early failure. Magnuson did the SC for Gen2 and the Toyota label release. Lots of information in the Performance thread. Magnuson cost more - but based on their commitment and leadership I'd say if you have the $, and feel like doing the DIY you can't go wrong. Pretty sure once the CARB is released for these (which is part of the cost) they will be the standard and the majority of Gen3 owners will be going to this developers' product. As noted there is room for improvement (tune) but that will come. Limitation will be fueling once you start pushing more boost - which has a solution - Mat at .vft has developed them and will be selling them.

If the magnusson tune is key locked will they provide edits for AGM batteries? Just realized this might keep me away... I do have vftune.. can I just open the file and copy the changes over to my own custom tune I’m currently running or can I not even see the values?

What’s needed in the tune for AGM batteries?

The charging voltage is raised. It’s unnecessary though. I’ve been using AGMs for years with no issues at a typical 13.5V charge level. AGMs can handle 14.5V though so a lot of people like modify the charging system to allow them to get the full benefit of the higher voltage ability of the batteries.

Based on the fact they won't change the tune for tires/gears at this point I wouldn't hold my breath...

Well that’s extremely dumb. If that’s the case they’re losing a ton of business seeing as a bunch of people that want to go this route are heavily modified. So I can’t just look at the values and make the changes myself then? I haven’t opened a keylocked tune before

The Magnuson Tune is locked - I already tried to look into mine = not allowed per .vft software. Perhaps if you had the "key" and or the pro software it would be possible.

I asked them about gears and tires - they are part of the information required for calibration when you submit. The answer I got from them (Ryan) was yes we adjust the calibration to meet the information sent and documented. ???

If you figure out how to open let me know. I considered sending them my current Tune and having them port their tune into it = allowing me to keep my shifting logic and other tweaks. Basically to ensure no drunk monkey shifting. They stated their tune does not exhibit the drunk monkey shift. They are also working on the next version of their tune - to be released in the next month or so. Guess we will see what it improves upon.

Hopefully once they get the CARB certification they will be willing and able to make further adjustments without fear off pissing off Cali.

Welp I pulled the trigger, got it for 6200 OTD on sale. If they aren’t going to let us custom tune it I’ll probably let it sit in the box and sell it but really hoping they’ll give us the option. I could care less about the warranty I want to get some performance out of it and accommodate AGM charging. Who’s gonna be the first with a smaller pulley? What are the chances of +400 hp? I guess time will tell :bananadance:

I can pretty much guarantee they won’t let you custom tune their tune, but you can take it to a dyno shop and have a custom tune made from scratch or from an ov tune base file maybe. Good luck finding a shop that uses OVTune or knows Tacomas though

Afaik, there's nothing stopping you from dynoing and building your own tune. Just that no one has done it yet.
