Ehh end of the day it's still a CL500, meaning it'll accelerate like a land missile with or without that wing. Of course, big leap of faith that engine is still running correctly.

so better to kill multiple people...maybe kids, so you can get one guy/girl?

interesting. I always thought cops were around to protect :notsure::notsure::notsure: Maybe I have the wrong idea about them

what if they went into a housing district?

    We can play what ifs.
What if the driver made a clear intent to drive through the front door of an elementary school? What if the driver had plowed through peds on a sidewalk and was going to do it again? What if the driver had just killed your kid, would you want them to let him go for another day? All the comments made before knowing why they were chasing him were made without knowing more than what the video shows. That is the problem with people these days. They take 10-30 seconds of a video and automatically say the cops were in the wrong and they would sue/protest/riot without taking the time to pull their heads out of their asses along with their what ifs.

Backward-mounted wing doesn't generate lift. Hell, even a correctly-oriented wing usually doesn't generate downforce unless it's been designed and tested in a windtunnel for the application. Otherwise all the wing does is add drag. Biggest danger in this particular case is the wing falling off the trunklid and hitting a following vehicle.

We went through all this what ifs and hypotheticals with the UPS hijacking/shootout in 2019. Let it go. I'm sure another WTF will happen for you to argue over.

It's fundamentally pointless to attempt to debate such things when the actual facts are scarce.

Folks insert their assumptions and form their stance from that basis, often with an emotional component to that view.

Different sets of assumptions end up creating different imagined versions of the scenario being discussed, and the various parties struggle to understand how others can hold the view they hold. Typically it then devolves into some sort of ad hominem fracas.

Better IMHO to just stick to the known facts, which in this case are extremely few.

Edit - we talking the American Coke or the Mexican (cane sugar) Coke here?

Same here. Took some getting used to when I first arrived here in 1989, coming from Ohio (where's it's "soda" or "pop").

"Hey man, you want a Coke?"

    "Uh, sure."

    "What kind?"

    "What kind, what?"

"What kind of Coke do you want, man? Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, what?"

I'm an aerodynamicist so I can chime in on this one.

The only thing required for generating lift or downforce is the ability for the wing to deflect incoming airflow down or up from the trailing edge of the wing, respectively. The change in the freestream air's momentum creates the reaction force on the wing we call lift. However what we're interested in is a *meaningful* amount of lift/downforce compared to the drag the wing produces (induced + parasitic drag), i.e. a notable lift-to-drag ratio (L/D). A correctly mounted wing will generate an appropriate lift-to-drag ratio since it's utilizing the airfoil geometry in its designed capacity. Mounting the same wing backwards often results in a significantly worse lift-to-drag ratio - mainly from reducing lift. Induced drag reduces as well (less lift = less induced drag) but there's still the underlying parasitic drag component (based on object's geometry & doesn't really change) that limits how low that goes.

I'd say the biggest danger is looking like a moron on the road. It generates a lot less downforce and as a result it's not generating greater loads than a properly mounted wing would. The bolts going through the trunk won't pull out. Hell, with less induced drag it might be slightly better for mpg than the properly mounted wing but it's doing nothing for cornering performance.

If you want to use one of these spoilers to generate lift instead of downforce, the trick isn't to mount it backwards. The trick is to mount it upside down.

This is logical, reasonable, and sounds rooted in all kinds of scientific fact that makes sense.

You're obviously in the wrong thread.
