im in a automotive repair school and i know gas engines are alot different than diesel but do you think that would help with being a mechanic in the marines they teach the same concept of things at school but im sure the marines are more in depth. do most convoys always have mechanic with them incase something happens on a patrol? where were u sationed?

My first impression of the Marines came after arriving in Downtown San Diego from a Greyhound bus trip from the Los Angeles Induction Center. About 20 of us got off the Bus and the designated leader with the manilla folder called the Recruit Depot and said there were 20 guys waiting for pickup. The call had been placed to the Depot around 4:00pm. Our day began at the induction Center at 6:00am and we were all pretty tired. At around 8:30pm a 1965 Ford Van arrived with a Lance Corporal and a Driver, who was a corporal. We piled into the Van, all 20 of us, and the Cpl and L/Cpl started driving to the Depot. They seem really cool and laughed and joked with us. The Van tuned off the street and stopped just short of the Gate Guard. He put the Van in Park, Turned to us and yelled : "Swallow your gum and shut the F&@K up!" We drove to an area that had yellow footprints painted on the ground. The Cpl stopped the Van and we all looked out at this one door. Within minutes, the Door to the building came flying open and this raving mad-man comes running out wearing this funny hat (The DI Campaign Hat) screaming at the top of his lungs: "Get the F&#K out and stand on the yellow footprints!!!!!" He started kicking the side of the Van and swinging wildly. We stood on those footprints, at attention until 2:00am, waiting for the rest of the guys to arrive from all over the western US. Welcome to the Crotch!

He's absolutley correct. The Army will give you a contract that ensures you will get the MOS of your chioce as long as you don't fail.

    Here is a story..........

I'm in the Army and enlisted for exactly what I wanted and have moved on to have a great job. I have a cousin who I tried to convince to join the Army or the AF. He lived in Europe as a kid and speaks 4 languages. I tried to tell him to become an intel analyst or something and use his skills. The Marine recruiter told him after bootcamp he might have that option. Now he is mid-way through a 12-15 mo. rotation in Iraq as a TOW missle gunner..........what a waste.

I work in a unit that has all branches and I don't play the "Army is better game." However, if you want to work on MRAPs or any other big vehicle and be sure of it, the Army is probably the way to go.

The AF is a great life but then again, it is the AF. You will never leave the wire and forever be a REMF.......some of the older guys might now what that is.

    Good Luck

thats pretty crazy i saw some videos on youtube the way the DIs yell at everyone while on the bus and yells at them to get off then yells at the more while standing thre. jw but did you or anyone else have second thoughts that first day or at anytime while in training. i have read where a few guys begin to have second thoughs about everything but then soon get that out of there mind and remeber the reason why they are doing it they are glad to be there and start to enjoy everything.

Wrong I am actually a recruiter and if he wants a job as a mechanic he needs to get ajob with a code CD that is a mech.. job all the drivers fall under the CA code if you want to be a mechanic tell them you want to be a CD job field you need to have a MM score on the ASVAB of a 105 and you will be good to go 3521 through 3529 all come out of the CD job field 3531 to 3538 all come from the CA field.. so if you have any other questions ask me ill get you all the info and tell you of the others are blowing smoke..

I served 4 years in the Marines, originally asked for Logistics but didn't get it....yeah I know but I also knew that the Marines would give me something the other services wouldn't. A serious mental challenge....sheesh. It was hardcore and I wasn't even infantry ( I am female and all..but do have a combat action ribbon for Iraq time, the Marines send you where they need you, every Marine is suppose to be a rifleman after all) Marines can seriously mess with your mind and I saw a few people not make it through their enlistment. If you don't mind a potentially serious and I mean very serious mental challenge then join the Marines, you could be stronger and possibly feel unbreakable afterward or you could be potentially worse off...if you want it easy, join the other services.

Remember: Be careful what you ask for....
I sure as hell didn't know. I don't regret it though.

dude suck it the f*#k up and go in to the recruiters office and join a combat MOS ASAP. infantry/RECON or artillery. Dont mess around. Open your eyeballs, shut your cumdumpster, grab that black military issued inkstick and sign your life away. Take that green weenie with a big smile. You will regret this decision every minute of boot camp and then after its all over you will be damn glad you did it and would do it all over agian if you had to. The Marines is not just a branch of the service but its a way of life. You will only realize this after joining and earning the title. Embrace everything that the Corps has to offer and dont get out after your 4 years like I did because you will eventually regret it. Semper Fi. C 1/12 Artillery 2002-2006

well sad to say the only way to get in is to talk to a recruiter so, he kinda has no choice.. if you think the recruiter is lying to you, its so easy to confirm what they told you online so do your homework and join the MARINES

The time for second thoughts was before you passed through the gate at MCRD. During basic we had two guys that had second thoughts. One guy was removed in a straight jacket screaming and balling like a nutcase and the other guy slit his wrists. Funny thing was, after the corpsman patched him up they brought him back to our squad bay for the DI to scream obsenities and insult him in front of the rest of the Platoon. After about 45 minutes, a MP jeep arrived, handcuffed the guy and I never saw him again.

I regretted joining the Corps. when black Friday came. Black Friday is when you move out of receiving and assigned to a platoon for training. I'll never forget sitting on the quarterdeck in front of the duty hut with 40 other recruits and watching the drill instructors in razor sharped creased uniforms march out. The last drill instructor to walk out was the "J" hat or drill hat. He was the one who slammed the door shut hella loud. I'll never forget that moment.

if you want to be a mechanic join the air force or the navy. being in the air force i am little biased. ya ya we get shit from the marines and some soldiers, but to be honest i have heard a good number of marines and soldiers say they wish they were in the af.
