Im having issues with soft pedal on my 06 sr5.

    Ive replaced
    master cylinder
everything in the rears as well as extended braided brake lines
front calipers and pads and braided lines

Ive used a preasure bleeder, vacuum bleeder and also used the bottle higher than the bleed screw.

Ive had the truck at Brakes Plus which just left me with a very minimal stiffer pedal and out 500+ for the new master and flush which they said its the best they could do and that they think there is something in the lines....pretty sure that's what a brake flush is for ass!!

Got my truck outta there and pressure bled about 3qts of new fluid through the system.

    So my thoughts now are,

    Is my ABS module trashed?

Ive seen that some later model tacos need tech stream to bleed the abs module valves but I'm not 100% that my 06 does...anyone know for sure?

I've heard of some people taking it and hooking to a BG power bleeder machine.

On a sorta side note....Is Techstream costly to set up on a Mac?

Yes I think you have air in the ABS System and need to get the solenoid valves cycled while bleeding. They use Techsttream to do a timed cycling of the valves as too long with power will burn out the coils.

Conversely you could get on a deserted strip or field and activate the ABS system with some spirited emergency braking and then bleed them again. That has been known to aid in getting the air out.

Techstream is not going to work on a MAC PC.

A slight bump in snow will cause your ABS to fire like your going 90mph allowing you to keep going through the stop sign and across the intersection. If you have any snow try that.

I purchased this scanner, which is supposed to be able to cycle/bleed the ABS. I haven’t received it yet so I can’t attest to its functionality. before I purchased the scanner I emailed their customer support and they said it’s able to bleed my Tacoma’s abs.

Update: Above scanner was delivered today and hooked it up to my 2nd Gen. Although I didn’t proceed with the procedure by pushing “Next(F3)” (See below), it does look like it has the capability to bleed the ABS, as is listed in the product description.

I hope this fixes the issue, I've gone to auto zone so many times for brake fluid they just give it to me for free now because they feel bad.

    I purchased this one.

It has the ability to activate the ABS system on other vehicles but stated something along the lines that it wasn't able to on my 2006. Maybe yours will have better luck?

Won't get it today, but this allows you to do all your heart desires with techstream, just not online. Buy it, load it, turn off your internet, plug in your truck, read your ABS, read your codes, program your keys, turn off your beeps, monitor your sensors, read live active streaming data, almost get into a wreck doing the previous step, and bleed your ABS system.

i hope so, I probably won’t get to bleeding the brakes until spring, when this damn snow is gone...I hate winter and NJ. I let you know how it goes.

    Lol, two years later…

mid you have the same problem, you don’t need any fancy stuff at all. Bleed your brakes with a helper and vinyl hose + plastic bottle. Then mash brakes a few times on a wet or dirt road to activate ABS. This will open the valves and push any air into the lines. Then regular bleed again until the air is out.

I tried the fancy stuff, but I don't have 2 people. I wedged the brake pedal down, activated the solenoid, then cracked the bleeder. Pretty sure the bleeder needs to be cracked while the solenoid is open, otherwise I'm just compressing air, not moving it. (same with the dirt road method).

Took it to the dealership but I might as well have just lit $200 on fire.

I ordered a syringe and am going to try reverse-bleeding it next.

(btw yes you can run Techstream on a mac, you just need to use VirtualBox. There's a writeup on the ih8mud forum)

I think your bleeding technique might be the issue here. You just need one friend to sit in the truck. Engine off. Helper pumps brakes until there’s pressure and holds it (yells “pressure”), then you crack bleeder. That’ll cause the pedal to go down quick (yells “down”). Key here is to close bleeder before pedal is all the way down or at least before it goes back up. Repeat until no more air. Start at rear right tire, then RL, FR, FL.
Then you do the dirt road thing.
Then you bleed all over again.

I know how to bleed brakes, dude. Is the dirt road method proven to be effective? Have you successfully performed it yourself or are you just passing on information you've read on here? Not everything you read on the internet is correct. That being said, if it does work then there's no air in my module and my problem lies elsewhere.

Thank you. I will report back with my findings if I solve it (sooner than two years from now).
