Plate front bumper I just built weighs in at 127lbs. Rear bumper is at around 61lbs right now and I still need to finish building the tire carrier for it.

I'm going to look into learning how to weld aluminum I think and see how much of all that steel armor can be converted to aluminum and still be functionally strong.

Aluminum will typically weigh in at 2/3 the weight of steel to be equally strong. My gripe with aluminum is it gouges instead of slides when you actually use them.

Yup. That's why I'm thinking only certain parts will be converted.

For example, on the Coastal front I just built. Cut the bumper wings off and make bolt on wings from aluminum plate, leaving the center section, generally the more abused part, as steel. Good weight reduction and retains the strength and slide-ability of the steel center.

In the rear, I've already made the bumper modular with bolt-on wings. Currently made from 3/16" steel plate and weighing about 30lbs each. They could potentially be made from 1/4" plate aluminum to reduce weight since they are less likely to see a lot of abuse.

Biggest concern is the front bumper really. 127lbs is freaking heavy and I haven't even added a winch yet.

If I was getting a hot hatch I sure wouldn't go type R lol. Focus RS would be the way. 35grand for prime used examples and they don't make them anymore.
