At the time I was in favor of the move. Murray was the future. Fleury still has a lot left in the tank but the Pens would have had a hard time with the salary cap keeping him. I believe Jarry can return to his all star form last year but goalies are a strange breed. they can have a great year or two then fade into oblivion. They are sometimes one (or two) hit wonders. I remember the Moose, Johann Hedberg was like that.

What's real craziness is that MAF could return at the trade deadline. I mean it probably won't happen but I wouldn't be surprised if the new GM made a move for him since he's available and would probably love the storyline of coming back.

As for Jarry, some goalies also make a come back later in their career. I point to Mike Smith as the biggest case. He was in Dallas as the "next one", blew his chances there and on his next team, and then turned into the reason Pheonix made the cup right after that. Put up a half dozen decent seasons after the cup run as well with Pheonix and Calgary.

Fleury was the most popular Pen in recent years, right behind Crosby. He is such a great human being and the fans here just loved him - especially the ladies. There was talk in the off season of a Fleury return, but it just that. Call it wishful thinking then. The Pens had given the number 1 spot to Jarry and bringing back Fleury would have been an instant controversy. Besides, they didn't have the cap space. Now, things are different. The Pens, if they are in position to make the payoffs, just might bring Fleury back for the playoff run. If the rumors are true, Rutherford resigned because he wanted to trade Letang and ownership felt this team had what it takes for another cup run. If Jarry is struggling toward the end if the season, the Pens may just try to pull something like this off to save ownership's face.

They need to sit Jarry and let Casey have a few games.
If Jarry is struggling? he has all year. I see nothing that indicates he will get it back. We could play better D in front of him, but he’s let in some bad goals, and is almost always out of position after any initial save, letting rebounds out in bad areas. If they continue to start Jarry, we won’t be in the top four, especially hurting on D-men right now.

In my opinion, Torts is already lining up his next job. He knows there will always be a GM looking for a schoolmaster for his players. If he keeps benching players in Columbus, when they don't renew him this offseason, he'll come out to the media and say ownership didn't support him enough so he couldn't get the players to buy in. It's in his best interest to keep up his image over seeing Columbus win.

Well at least we won't have to listen to Brian Burke on Sportsnet anymore

I'm shocked Burke got another job. He's clearly out of touch with what a team needs to win in this era. The Pens are fucked.

Damn it. I’m not liking the choice for GM either.

yeah...I think something is afoot in that area too...he rarely seems "upbeat" in interviews, and has been that way since the end of last season as well

I am not a Brain Burke fan. I don't get that move. Hextall? I think he can be a good GM. I will always remember him though for the time he chased Robbie Brown around the ice after Brown scored on him.

Uggg 5 L inarow ... strange fact this year; Brown is LA leading goal scorer so far, but the Kings have lost in every game he scored !!

    I smell shake-up very soon.

... also see the teal losing next game:thumbsup:

Lol. Once I moved my office home, things just changed with work and I was never on here in evenings either. But no, not dead. Still have the same truck and still watching hockey every night. I have been meaning to get back on and chat it up with you guys. I missed it.
