    Just replace them at 100,000,

You can’t really tell the condition on these unless they are really worn out, better to be safe

I’m on that page now too, Cheaper than comprehensive insurance!:rofl: And you don’t want to bank on getting lucky like me and have it fail 10 feet from your driveway.
And I’m surely not lucky enough to have that happen Twice

If the boots look good and there is no play then you'll be fine for a little while longer. Technically the tolerances they should be within wouldn't really show up as noticable play when tested, so if they move at all, they are toast and the truck should be parked until they're changed. I'd use 100k as your ceiling though, they can go longer, but yours are also 14 years old at this point. People will say you can use moog, 555, parts store brand, etc. but this is one of those cases in my opinion that it's worth the extra like $150ish for OEM. Sure, you can save a little bit of cash now, but it's a hell of a lot more expensive and dangerous if one of these let go at speed. Your truck, your call, just want to give you some insight.

Check out @turbodb guide or @Timmah! video on changing them and inspecting. Very doable job on your own. Both of those guys are EXCELLENT resources on tons of other things, so poke around their respective site/channel and you'll learn a ton!

Sweet, you got some life in that for sure! If you dont mind me asking, what’d that set you back? You dont have to answer if you dont want:anonymous:

edit, I now realize I mis-read your initial post about you going to the dealership. But I am still curious...

thanks man! I can too. I’m with ya! There’s something about it’s proportion and how high off the ground it is that really is appealing to me!

I feel like I paid the market rate to get a pretty premium and relatively low mileage first gen regular cab PreRunner that has lived in California its entire life. All of the body panels still have the VIN tags on them and since it’s been in California it’s entire life, the undercarriage is nice and clean. The interior is very clean also.

Does anyone have a clean center console and front bucket seats out of a 2001-2004 in light grey color? I want to swap my bench out for a center console and bucket seats. I’m interested in Tacoma or 4Runner bucket seats as long as they are light grey and clean. Cloth or leather. Let me know please!

Also, if any of you have done this upgrade, please share your truck of the trade for the install process with me please!

I just bought a 04 Tacoma and want to check this out.

Just get soMe brake cleaner and make sure it’s free and not stuck in one position or rusted.

It should be able to move up and down as pressure is able to pass out of the diff

Not sure if you're in SoCal but check with https://www.tacomaworld.com/members/2runner.316661/ for the gray seats. I tried to buy it off of him, but I guess im pretty color blind cause my interior is tan and didnt see till we met up. Love the truck, pretty new 1st gen tacoma owner as well so looking foward to following this thread.

Question... do 1st gen regular cabs not believe in putting side steps + Predator steps? I've been having the toughest time looking for one that fits our truck and im about almost ready to give up.

    Thanks guys!

I had an 02 with 330,000 miles when I sold it. Ran great. Regular oil changes and preventative maintenance go a long way. Hoping my 17 lasts that long!
