I have received most of the components for the first batch of 20. However, the interest list is bigger than that. So I’m also researching options for potential mass production of the harness to speed up final assembly.

One of my first steps may be to time myself to see how long it takes to build one from scratch once all parts are received and prepared.

My goal is a formal BST thread by President’s day.

    Short answer: yes.

Any update on the next batch list? Just making sure I didn’t get missed, or miss the announcement. :)

So there's no big rush to collate the interest list, your post expressing interest effectively reserves a spot in line. Here's how I plan to do things.

    1. Build and test 1-3, send 1 to @Puppypunter for feedback to ensure my efforts meet his standards, time myself to see how long it takes, keep 1 as a visual template/guide and possibly provide the 3rd in whole or in part to a third party harness manufacturer or some of my local network who might be able to assist in the effort. I won't use any outside labor unless it meets my standards.
    2. Get a legit BST thread started by President's day which will include the formal reservation list, a FAQ, first post with details and pricing ($85) installation instructions, before and after photos, etc. I've started on this.
    3. Open for sale once I have at least 5 built and tested honoring the current interest order. I'd like to build the remaining 17 in a batch so that I do 17 of one thing then move on to the next thing as an attempt to streamline. So, it's most likely that the first batch of 17-18 ish will all become available at the same time. I'd guess that this first batch should sell rather smoothly and then I'll reset the list to shuffle everyone else into their position on the wait list. I'll reserve spots for say 3-5 days after a DM and tag of who can order and then move down the list.
    4. As soon as I have say 10 sold I'll use that revenue to order another set of 20 parts. If they sell crazy fast I may try to get parts for 30-50 for the next batch, however, please note that OEM connector availability is a challenge. The last batch of 20 required sourcing connectors from 2 different suppliers, the relays from a 3rd, pins from a 4th, heat shrink from a 5th, wire from a 6th. Some of those supplies should be good for 50+ units and won't need immediate re-ordering, some are good for 100+, but the connectors are $4 a pop and the real limiter on how many harnesses I can build at a time. We're also likely putting a little bit of demand pressure on connector suppliers with the hitch reverse harness needing the same two reverse connectors.

So, if you want in, a quick post to that effect is good for now, then just wait and let me try to get them built and get the final BST thread going.

Cool? Don't want anyone to get too bummed about this or stressed out, I'm on it but I do have a day job so the time I can allocate to this is after the kids are asleep which is 1-3h max on any given night.

Sounds great! Thanks for taking the time to explain the planned process! I’ll keep an eye out for a DM and/or tag and go from there. No huge rush from my end. Thanks again for the hard work you’re putting in!

Take your time and don't stress. I'm sure everyone has more important issues than their plate lights turning off in reverse. :anonymous:

@daveeasa is working hard on these :) My batch is almost ready, so I will be reaching out to people soon. Then I can start on my true passion project: The truck-nut spotlight! It is almost their time in the sun! ... at night!

Oh, and I'll update the list soon, so no worries there.

Would you mind taking some photos of the settings screen for camera resolution for the benefit of others? I have a Pioneer 6600 and didn’t see a configuration option for the OEM reverse camera resolution.

I’m trying to assemble a comprehensive set of installation instructions and didn’t want to miss this tidbit.

To adjust daytime settings have your lights off. To make nightime adjust click your lights on.
It's that easy. These are my settings. Daytime right in the middle. Nightime is a little different. Play around with them to your liking.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if there was a 480p / 720p resolution option in the etune head unit which I couldn't see in the Pioneer. Much appreciated and this will make the final documentation at some point and I'll credit you for the help, thanks so much.

In other news, apparently one supplier skipped one of the 4 connectors so I'm sitting on a grand total of qty 1 on that for now. I just ordered 50 from a corsa technic. So, the waiting continues though there is still plenty of prep to do in the meantime.

Doing some hands on prototypes right now, in the guest room because my wife stole the garage for her office. Ignore the floral comforter.

Now Remember. The settings I used/shown are for the Smaller Entune. Should not be too much different for the more expensive head unit

I have sent the first round of PM's for the ones that are finalized. There will be a few more probably tomorrow. If you are high on the list and did not get a notice, it is because yours isn't a standard one. Those will be coming soon.

I was actually thinking I might send you my prototype once it passes QA. Since you are quite capable and I think you won’t get too cranky if there is any trouble. I’m not sure how that sits with others as far as jumping the line but if there is a problem you would be providing one final quality check and helping everyone out.

At the moment it’s on its way to to puppypunter for evaluation. And I believe it’s missing the female reverse connector. And I’m not sure he has any of those.
