Garage Shop: Tools

That was 2 years ago. I haven't seen his truck parked on the street for a while. Don't think he works there anymore, couldn't tell you why... Luckily I have another year-ish of supplies left. I'll try to find another "vendor" in the mean time.

1/2"? I have that one and have been very happy with it.

though its the first torque wrench I've ever owned. So take my experience for what its worth

 

Bought a Snapon 1/2" air drill and Makita 1/2" impact, made in USA and Japan. Doing my best not to buy any power tools made in china, it's not easy.

 

Made this holder for all my pry and breaker bars to clear up some room in the tool box.

 

Has anyone used the texton warranty program? How did it go and how long did it take to get a new tool?
Most my non tool truck tools is gearwrench or husky cause the warranties are quick and easy.

 

I haven’t done it but apparently you send them a pic and in a few days you have a new tool in the mail. Maybe a little slower with the current shipping issues, but it’s famously easy to warranty with Tekton.

@mjbtaco how did you build yours with a steel platter? Any pics?

I will not be the end user of this but definitely want something a little more robust (as far as the work surface goes) than the plywood in the original YouTube video you linked. Even if it’s a wood base, I’m okay with that. Maybe with some steel plate that is countersunk and screwed to the plywood below?

 

So I’m going to use a stainless steel platter tray from a commercial food scale. It’s flat on all sides and about 13”x11”x2.3”..

Thinking I’ll make a wooden base to mount the magnets and associated parts, and build that section to be housed inside the scale platter. May counter sink screws in on the side so the top surface isn’t anything but flat and unobstructed, so it sits nice and tight together as one piece.

 

I actually used an aluminum top, I didn't know how the steel top would react with the magnet so I went with aluminum.

 

Also not listed in the video I used these female plugs for the power source so I didn't have to hard wire it in to the plug wires.

Good catch, forgot about that part.

Pretty positive the scale platters are non ferrous stainless, been a while though. I guess we’ll find out.

Was thinking some aluminum would be ideal before I thought about the platter idea. I can’t weld and wanted a nicer finished look of bent and welded edges.

Isn't that the new 1/2 mid torque impact wrench? I've got two of the former version and was thinking of getting the new one.
