no.. a noose would be too kind of punishment for him.

is he fucking serious? i wish we could see what actually happened, but seriously?? I counted 4 shots.. for what? the guy didnt appear to be doing anything wrong. this is one of the main reasons why I have no respect for police.. what happened to shoot to disarm? now its "o god he might be a threat.. i need to eliminate him"
    fuckin bull shit.
"to protect and to serve".. more like "to harass and harm"

"The day after the shooting, Diaz said any blade that can cause a lethal injury would be considered a deadly weapon, and that the 3-inch knife Williams had was definitely capable of causing a lethal injury."
so exacto knives, razor blades, scissors, and even screw drivers are all "weapons" which deserve you to be murdered? what about crushed soda cans? they can be sharp..

I fully support the law enforcement community but... This officer doesn't have a leg to stand on for defense. There have been quite a few officer incidents with the Seattle police Dept this last year... This one surely doesn't help them out

x2 on that wtf imagine this guys kids. "oh yeah your daddy's dead because he was carving a piece of wood in public". There need to be more restrictions and requirements on law enforcement in order to keep people like this from enforcing laws. I respect the people that serve our country and do a good job of it, but this is ridiculous.

worst part about this story is that when it happened the cop said that the carver had turned and started to approach him. When told to drop his weapon he didn't, and therefore the shots were fired. But infact witnesses said the victim wasn't facing the officer. The four shots that hit the victim were in the side of chest and top it off he was deaf. I agree I hate these young cops that take advantage of there authority, cops don't seem to act within any reason anymore. Im up in Vancouver, Canada and it seems that every month theres something hitting the media regarding police abuse. It makes me sick, and most of these assholes keep there jobs which makes it even worse.
The victim was a Canadian who lived in Seattle.

this honestly will make me feel unsafe around police officers, the fact that he lied about the victim turning on him scares me. If the people that enforce our laws can't tell the truth who will?

Definitely being sarcastic. I do not support this cop AT ALL. That's why I think he deserves a noose around his neck.

The Bike cops go there at the same time as the squad cars???????
The officers answer was that he had a knife and wouldn't drop it. WTF.
Thats why cops here have cameras on their person now. We would have seen what the officer saw.

    Pretty much stock
Typical comments from people who have no idea how police are trained and how quick real life situations turn bad.

First I'll address "Shoot to Disarm"

No such thing, in an intense situation the officers accuracy is half of what they would normally shoot at the range on a good day. 100% at the range, 50% on the street, 80% at the range, 40% on the street. Did you really expect him to shoot someone in the hand? Big no no, against department policy at every department i am aware of. You shoot center mass, no questions asked (unless of course a hostage is involved).

Anyone worth shooting once is worth shooting twice, if you ask any officer that has been involved in a shooting they will not be able to tell you exactly how many times they shot, only that it was more than once.

2nd, "the guy didn't appear to be doing anything wrong"

You are correct, for the 3 seconds you see of him walking across the street, You nor I have no idea what happened around the corner....the paper stated that he was within 9 feet of the officer with a knife.

Under 21ft with a edged weapon is considered deadly force.

3rd, i'll paste this gentlemans history from the paper:

Police say during the Aug. 30 confrontation at Boren Avenue and Howell
Street, Williams refused multiple commands to drop a knife from 9 feet away -- a distance that police say can present a lethal threat. Williams also had a
decades-long history of gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor offenses, and some violent incidents in his past. For all we know he may have assaulted officers in the past, would bet the farm that this is not this particular officers first encounter with him.

NOW...that being said, everyone can be an armchair quarterback on monday nights. I am not defending what this officer did, however i do not believe that this gentleman is as innocent as the paper is making it seem. I HIGHLY doubt he was walking away from the officer and he shot him in the back, but i do not know.

I know that to draw my weapon on someone i sincerely have to feel threatened, I can only hope this officer felt the same way. With someone nine feet away, it would only take them 1 second to come at you with a knife, that is faster than the majority officers can unholster their weapon, much less fire.

From a full 21 feet, it only takes 3 seconds. Lots of my classmates got "killed" in academy because they could not unholster and fire at someone running with a edged weapon at 21 feet.

Don't believe everything you read, i can tell you the crap these papers post is 99% bullshit. I know first hand how they can twist a story from reading our bulletins then reading what crap the paper has twisted it into.

This will be my only response to this thread, if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Ninja Edit: I do see where he was shot 4 times in the right side, I assume the attorney means he was shot from the profile, not front facing. No one but the officer knows what exactly went down that day and if this gentleman was turning toward or away from the officer. It will be interesting to see what the court decides.

I will not argue your very valid points above , I only question the need for 5 shots to stop a man armed with a 3 " knife .
