I'm listing my stache before too much longer if you want to wait a little bit. Sad to see it go, but I dont need 2 similar bikes. 29+ tires soak up the chatter, but its a surprisingly sweet XC machine.

I'm a huge fan of steel and titanium for hardtails; it just goes well with the durability and simplicity of them. I'd personally be looking at some of these more boutique frame companies like Pipedream, Pole, Stanton, Curve, Reeb, etc.

Other than that, I tend think of XC bikes as only for people that want to train/race. The slacker HTs are way more fun and climb really well. I actually just upped my HT from a 120mm to 140mm fork so it'd be more... upduro

that bike actually retailed for $10k

Surprisingly you can get that bike SLX build for $3600 though. Same frame, no custom color.

Hmmm it sounds like I may need to blow the search window back open to include the trail hardtails... Nukeproof scout does look like a pretty sweet one and it does fit the price range I'm looking for. But hard to FIND may be the driver rather than hard to fund haha. Also @SenatorBlutarsky it was definitely not lost on me that I went from making fun of "upduro" to describing a bike that was essentially.... upduro

I'll do some more looking into some of those options and see what comes along then get some more thoughts once I've got it narrowed back down. Thanks guys!

All that being said this could fit the bill and work out pretty well for us both. PM headed your way

As someone who ordered supposedly in stock parts from wiggle/chainreaction it took 1 month exactly for that to make it to my door.

International shipping a PITA right now I guess, I’ve ordered from them before as well and received quickly though.

Just something to think about ordering from overseas.

You could always just add a coil to your TB. Makes it even more bottomless and narrows the gap between the Hightower.
I ran mine as a 140/134 setup. Definitely took on a new beastly personality that way.

No shit? I've been concerned about this bike purely because of the 120 rear suspension. I know I can go up to 140 on the front and I very well may do that, but this opens up a lot of doors. What did you end up going with back there to get to 134? I'm not well versed in coil shocks.

i didnt think you could add that much travel just by switching to coils....isnt the travel of the bike still limited to the suspension geometry, regardless of the kind of shock you have in there?

You're correct. *however* Sometimes a bike co underspecs the rear shock to a lowest common denominator because there might be a difference in allowable freetravel between alloy and carbon frames for example. Cascade Components notes this in their product offerings.

I've seen some posts about toolboxes in here.... I have a perfectly equipped garage with every tool I need, but I'm anal/OCD and like my MTB to be separate. And portable.

A while back I found this perfect 22" Husky Connect Cantilever toolbox, unfortunately it seems like they discontinued it. If you run to your local Home Depot you might be able to find one. It looks like you can still piece two boxes together, but it's double the price that way. The small parts organizer up top holds a ton of stuff, from lights to spare chain links, to shock pumps. The big bin on the bottom holds a ton of tools. I just ordered some Kaizen foam for mine to get it bit more dialed in.

Check out this thread on my mtbr.com if you haven’t already.

    https://www.mtbr.com/threads/tallboy-4.1099642/

The increase in stroke of the stock shock from 45->50 provided more travel. Yes, there’s room in the frame/design.

I tried to go for a ride today because the weather was nice but it was far too muddy/snowy to get very far. I did get just far enough to get a feel for the new 140mm Pike on my hardtail. That thing is smooth!!! I think it's better than the 160mm Fox 36 I have on my Rallon....
