I feel bad for the poor bastard in dallas that got killed because he got out of his car to assess damage before the pileup was finished.

Its a harsh reminder to not leave the confines of your cage unless you have to, and if you have to, beat feet to get your ass off the road.

One of our delivery guys said they're diverting traffic off the highway, but people are getting stuck on the grass/mud/service roads.

I'm off today, so I was able to avoid the mess on the freeway. I'll be driving to work on Monday when it's supposed to be worse.

Yep. We had a friend of the family killed last year. He was helping a lady change a flat. Got done and on her way and as he was getting back into his truck someone rear ended him. Im to the point now where if my vehicle is at all mobile, it'll get off the highway. I'll pay for a ruined wheel/tire before I screw around with being on the shoulder.

Everyone in the office just came to the consensus that we're not coming in on Monday.

Same. That's why I'm a fan of the fancy-schmancy safety nannies like TPMS. I've had one rapid flat in this truck, and that system gave me just enough advance warning to find an off-ramp and a side street without having to toast a wheel. I don't mess with shoulders.

On a similar note, Houston cops have a weird habit of pulling people to the left shoulder. Last time I got popped down there I got snarked at by the officer because instead of pulling left, I changed lanes and went to the right shoulder where I could get on the grass. One and only time where I gave the guy attitude right back, I locked eyes with him and asked "what makes you think it's safe to stop there?"

Yeah, when I drove by that dealer at the 30/820 this morning, the maintenance people were already working at 415....

I think I'm going to crank up my space heater in the garage and TRY to get some butcher blocks done.

Just look at the build thread
Lost to the weather this morning on my way to work. Did one complete roll, landed back on the tires, and then turned around and drove her back home. She's in the garage now. Going to probably be selling the whole truck as is because I don't wanna mess with parting out. Just trying to figure out what it's worth. A lot of brand new, low mileage parts installed in the last year.
