Down to the last thing on my winter checklist. Adjusted the valves, fixed and cleaned up some of the wiring, got some fresh tires and tubes now just need to change the oil and hope for some better weather!20210210_210032.jpg

Soooo....since I managed to basically drain my primary, should I drain it completely using the drain plug and refill? Or simply top her back off?? She was serviced at 1k miles by the dealer, and next service for the primary fluid is at 10k per the service intervals. What say the peanut gallery?

Also, got all the extensions complete....need to plug them back in and test, then continue what I thought was gonna be a one day job. Luckily for me, weather is supposed to get real crappy thru next week so no riding anyway!

Provided you're using the same fluid as the dealer put in just top it off. When you had the 1k service done was it just replaced with regular primary/trans juice or did you have it switched to Syn3? While I've been told you can "top off" with either when low I'm a little more OCD and want to KNOW I have the same fluid in it. I run the Syn3 full synthetic in my Buell and have been happy with it. Little more expensive but I feel it shifts a little smoother and I know in the engine it brought the operating temp down some. The primary isn't an exact amount anyway. I believe my manual calls out 28-32 ounces. Fill it to the bottom of the clutch basket with the bike upright. You'll likely need a friend to hold the bike when you do this. I have a swing arm stand that fits to make my life easier.

I did opt for the Syn3 when I did the 1k service. Guess I'll make a trip to the dealer for some. Thank you sir! :hattip:

I'd like to think that's what we're all on here for. Helping one another and lending our experience to each other so that the next person might benefit and not make the same mistakes we all have made. Glad to be of assistance.

Same. Haven't ridden since October. Temps warmed to mid-40s to mid-60s here but we have rain forecast for the next nine days in a row.

Revzilla is about 2 hours one way for me but that's blasting out the PA turnpike which is NOT a fave of mine. Up until about 2012 when I got my first FJR1300 I was good for maybe 400 miles per day. I rode the Buell in my avatar from PA to NH in one day roughly 450 miles but that was my record. Now, with my FJR set up like it is for long distance riding I've knocked out just shy of 1200 miles in 24 hours. Would really like to try a Bun Burner Gold which is 1500 miles in 24 hours.

Far away is only far away if you don't go

I have resorted to trying to duck parking enforcement on campus this week. I’m down to 3 days of parking left for my truck, and the weather is getting “worse?” Until early next week. Wind chill is going to hit -25 to -30 here tomorrow night. I’m heading to our warehouse to lock open all the sinks so our pipes don’t freeze. We don’t have enough heat out there to keep it above the 30s inside in this weather. I just want to ride to work again and park next to my building..... I always forget how much not riding makes me feel depressed.

Still dealing with an oil "venting" issue any time I ride more than 50 miles. Might have to do with the replacement oil tank I got off of eBay when I rebuilt the motor. I went ahead and ordered a new oil tank and some fresh oil lines just in case there is some blockage somewhere.

Now I've fallen down a rabbit hole and am considering doing a really dirty thing. :sawzall:

You should meet some of my friends....

I know the only woman to do the Iron Butt ultimate coast to coast to coast. That's Key West, FL to Prudhoe Bay, AK, and back to Key West in under 30 days. Topping that off Kate is a type 1 diabetic wearing an insulin pump. She's recently taken up golfing and in less than 3 years at it has already gotten a hole in one.
