speaker problems....

When driving and volume is low I don't get any sound out of the passenger speakers, when I turn the volume up the speakers work. Is this an amp problem? I am running a kenwood 4ch amp with the front speakers and a 10" sub amped. Seems like the passenger speakers aren't getting enough juice at low volume.

 

So the 4 channel amp is ONLY for the front speakers or it also powers the rears too? If it's only for the fronts, does the passenger rear speaker (not powered by the Kenwood amp) also exhibit this problem?
Also, how are you feeding the amp signal? RCA from an aftermarket deck or are you using a line out coverter on the stock one?

 

the 4 channel is feeding the 2 fronts on the 1/2 channel and a sub bridged on the 3/4 channel. I am using

And the rear passenger speaker...does it cut out too or is it just the front passenger speakers giving you issues?

If it's just the fronts that are affected, I'd think it's a wiring issue. Do you have a DMM (digital multi meter) for measuring resistance? If so, remove the affected speaker wires from the amp and measure the impedance/ohms. Should be somewhere between 3 and 8 depending on the speakers you're running. Even if your speaker is a "4ohm speaker" it will never read exactly 4 so don't stress out about that. The impedance test would just be to make sure you don't have an incomplete circuit (infinite impedance).

After you test the wires, make sure when you put them back they are neat, tidy, and solidly attached. A lot of problems can come from stray wire strands touching or loose connections. Do some music tests and see if that alleviates the problem. If not, the issue is likely closer to the speaker and we can trouble shoot that if it comes to it.

As mentioned on a bunch of threads the rear speakers are useless and are designed to be very subtle. Since you are throwing more power now to front the difference will be even more noticeable.

the stock amp is throwing like 3watts to rear or something minimal like that. There is a thread where Destin Meeks measures all voltages and shows this empirically.

completely normal. If you don’t believe pop off a rear door panel and run a line to one of those speakers to test, you will see. I just installed new amp sent signal to the back to check the speaker fidelity and such. They sounded band passed like all muffled mids.
