I've seen first hand 3 different aluminum skids crack at the welds on moderate trails. Different locations not just one particular trail.

Aluminum skids may protect against one big drop before it cracks. Steel will repeatedly protect against drops. Aluminum causes friction with rocks when steel slides over.

Hell naw, that thing is a mud pit right now! Plus my buddy in his 4Runner slid down the hill at the entrance into a ditch and smashed his quarter panel. He said the entrance is almost impassable now.

if that’s the case I think steel then. I have the factory skids. They have held up alright with a few dings and bends but haven’t taken many extreme impacts. I like the light weight and no rust of aluminum but defeats the purpose if they start to fall apart on impacts.

Nice! I used to ride and race when I was stationed on Oahu. Rode a lot when I was in Cali, but haven't owned a bike in over 15 years. Plan to get a cruiser when finances allow, to take the wife on a Sunday cruise.

Cool cool. My wife and I ride. I have a Triumph Street Triple R and she rides a Monster 696. We haven't ridden in a while though. Really crappy weather and I need to fix a leak on the Duc. It's coming from behind the front sprocket, best I can tell.
