I just got Duratracs today 265/75/16 mounted with Spidertrax spacers. On the plus side, they look badass, even without lift. And I can deal with the slight hum (only notice at 50+ mph with stereo and fan turned off).

On the negative side, one of the first things I noticed about the ride is that there is a "bouncy" up and down vibe that is annoying. I can feel it thru the seat at 40+ mph. Have any of you guys had this kind of up-down vertical shake develop?

I did not get an alignment, because the tire place said that when they checked the alignment it was "close enough for the time being" but that I really need to have a rear alignment before a front alignment can be done, and that particular shop doesn't do rear alignments. They said my rear axle is cockeyed, but that the front is currently aligned to track straight with the cockeyed rear.

those vibes could be coming from the spacers or a bad balancing job. have them redo it. whats the backspacing on the wheels your running.

The actual diameter in that size is 31.9", which is big. I have mine on with no lift, and they do rub slightly on the passenger front, only in reverse, when I am going over a hump. Otherwise, no rubbing. I have not done any trimming yet, but probably will. I also plan on lifting the front .85", so that should do it. P.s., I'm running Spidertrax 1.25" spacers, so I can only speak from experience with running spacers.

Running stock wheels with the Spidertrax. I also noticed just now that the tire shop didn't use the tubes of thread lock that were provided with my spacers. I wonder if they used their own thread lock.....or none at all.

I dunno, the catalog that I looked at with the guy at the tire shop said 31.9" for the Duratracs in 265/75/16, and 30.4" for the BFG Rugged Trails in 265/70/16 = 1.5" diameter difference. :notsure:

The dealership never mentioned the rear alignment to me. Also, why did you add the spacers? What does it do for you?

Guess I just had to look it up and read about the Spidertrax. That being said, I thought the size tires you used didnt require Spidertrax?

Spidertrax are by no means needed for this tire size, I am just running them to widen the stance because it looks badass and because it puts the sidewall farther out so that it protects the body when wheeling thru tight trails (tires make first contact with rocks/trees rather than body). If anything, running spacers probably increases chances of rubbing because it increases the arm from the steering fulcrum.

One before (with stock Rugged Trails) and two after (Duratracs with Spidertrax, no lift):

Thanx, yeah I'm stoked about how they look! The pics don't even do justice to how much of an improvement they are. I think the .85" lift, as small as it may be, will also make a huge difference in the overall look. I just hope these things don't suck my mpg's to hell.

sigh, quick search didn't turn up an immediate answer, and I don't have time to read all 43 page of this at the minute.

dropped off the Taco for new 265/70/17 Duratrac's on my 09 DC Sport and they called me up saying they can't mount them because they won't fit. They rub the UCA. Truck is bone stock, tires going on stock 17" Sport alloys.

I've read many places on here that that's the biggest tire that will fit on a stock truck. Anybody idea what the deal is?

try adding spacers..that's the cheapest way around it

otherwise you'll have to get a new set of wheels that have more of an offset that will create more space between the tire and the UCA

i had that issue when i first upgraded my tires, and i went with the new wheel route to make room for my 285/70/17 after i got my lift

I have 17K on my Duratrac's now and they still have at least 3/4 tread on them. They still perform great in the snow. I'm hearing a little more road noise from them now but nothing major.

    tnx razor & nyco

the truck has 265's on it now, so how can a tire the same width not fit, right? Its just 26mm larger in diameter.

and if i gotta buy new parts, then I'd lift and go to at least 285, I just wanted to keep this simple.

I don't own the tires, but I can't imagine they come standard as much wider than the equivalent sized stock tires. Sounds more like they don't know what they are talking about.

Perhaps they are mistakenly informing you of potential fitment issues with 285s?

The tires based on size won't be any wider, but the listed size is based on the barrel, not the actual size. Duratrac sidewalls have aggressive sidebiters on them, and those tread blocks may be rubbing the UCA's.

I'm not running stock wheels or stock sized tires, so I have no idea what the actuality of it is. It seems a little crazy to me too that they actually rub, but who knows, maybe the Duratrac sidewall has that much more meat to it.
