Tire rubbing all of a sudden due to ice build up between flap and well

Here is a bizarre one. All of a sudden my driver's side front wheel started rubbing on the mud flap when I would turn the wheels to the left. I'm running 265/75/r16 KO2's and they never rubbed in the year that I have owned the truck.

After further inspection, it looks like water, snow and ice built up between the well and and where the flap mounts; pushing it closer to the wheel when the ice expanded. I took the flap off and broke all of the ice out from behind the flap and where it screws in.

Anyone else run into this? Just seems weird to me that it would do that.

I don't have mud flaps, but i get ice build up on my pinch weld on my 2nd gen that can cause rubbing sometimes if it gets too thick. If i notice it i just chip it away. Once i hammer the weld i doubt it'll be a problem anymore

It's Winter. We get snow & ice & slush in New England. Funny sh$% happens when you drive in it. One of the disadvantages of the deicing stuff is it prevents water & slush from freezing down to a certain temp - once the temp goes below that, it'll refreeze. Very often the road is warmer than the air. You get water/slush/snow on the roads, it gets thrown up against your inside fenderwells where the air is much colder. It refreezes and builds up. It'll find its way to unexpected places. I've had rare instances where I had limited steering because of the build-up. Ya just gotta chip it off and avoid driving through the slush.

Clean mud flap and spray with cooking spray or sexy lube and snow and ice will fall off.

    All these jokers.
Bring it to the dealer, they need to correct that, shouldn't be happening.

    Right.
The dealer will make sure that the roads you travel will be clear of snow, slush and/or ice and be nice and dry.

Keep your negative attitude to yourself. It's a Toyota design flaw and it should be fixed immediately via the manufacturer warranty.

Yup. Always happens to me every year at least once during the winter season (driver side). Running 265 /70 17, even with about a 2.5" lift upfront. Be careful because you will rip your mud flap off if you do full lock at any sort of speed (ie U turn). Ask me how I know.

    Let me get this straight...
Cold Temps+Cold Water makes ice? And then it builds up on itself as a solid and grows larger?
    *mind blown*

WD40 is for people that don't know any better. One might as well piss on their mudflaps
