Actually this issue isn't even new. Happens all the time with different manufacturers. Been a tech and being in the upper Midwest till we moved to STL a year and a half ago. The places you see the snow and slush crap get into, freeze and expand would blow your mind. Try having coil springs pack full and then freeze solid. Or a year old ujoint snap because slush turned to solid ice overnight, locked up the back wheels (what one blew my mind)

I keep a shortened hockey stick in the bed. The blade's curve clears slush from wheel wells brilliantly. Worked great on my gti last winter

Can you believe the audacity of some of these people? Thinking this is normal and acceptable performance from a Tacoma.

Yeah man, I get it and it makes sense. This is my 4th Tacoma and never had this problem.

I think a lot of people that have commented so far think I'm referring to normal snow and ice build up "on" the flap. I was referring to buildup between the flap and the well, forcing the flap to separate from the well and push towards the wheel.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
So I suppose your position is that this ONLY happens to Toyotas and no other vehicle ...
54 New England Winters tells me otherwise.
You must live & drive in a region where it hardly ever snows.

good grief........o_O:der: Is this the Friday post???

When you stop. Just walk around the truck, give each mud flap a kick. This will dislodge the ice/slush/muck build up off the mud flap. This simple action will avoid a trip to the dealer trying to handle warranty issues.

Of course, I'm sure the Service Shop would enjoy a good chuckle.

    A couple of serious points:
If the ice muck is getting between the mud flap and wheel liner, then you should check the fit of the mud flap and the install.

Welcome to winter muck build up on vehicles. Its normal. You will see this on just about every vehicle around you.

Lol ice or any natural substance will always win over man made stuff. Dirt, air, water wins every time in every form.

I also grew up in New England old man, sounds like you have some FUD going on with a sprinkling of "doesn't know what's going on".

    You're kidding right?

It happens to any vehicle if you let the ice and snow accumulate in the wheel well during the winter. It happened with my 91 truck and the wife's 95 Sunbird when we lived in Illinois and Maine.

Spray the inner fender wells and flaps with fluid film. Keeps snow and crap from sticking.

Remove the hard shell OEM flaps and go with a better product like Rek Gen or Rokblox

This is after 2 hours of mostly straight freeway driving, rude awakening when I hit the off ramp and tried to turn:
