I know. Had one go flying past me probably doing 70 when our roads were iced up last time. Then he tried to stop. I hope no one was going through the intersection at the light over the hill he was about to go over.

Took me and my partner that day (I stopped and picked him up at his house on the way) 2 hours to get 40 miles. There were way too many people out that morning that didn’t need to be and wrecks everywhere. We made it and never slid once. Police had the interstate blocked and let us through so we could get to the station. Once we were there we were shut down with the Internationals unless it was truly a life or death situation. Those things were too big to be driving on icy country roads and risking putting us and others in danger for calls that could wait.

 

Bob I hate to piss on your statement but please stop spraying brake clean and other chemicals on your skin. Get yourself a box of gloves and wear them.

I think the problem with truck drivers is their scheduling, electronic and paper, and their personalities. They do not need to be pushing themselves to nearly passing out from exhaustion with an 80k pound load.

 

IMO that Coke truck should not have even been on the road. Drinks can wait. But I know when I was there a holiday was a pain in the ass if we were off. That just meant we would do those deliveries the day before or the day after along with everything we had that day also. Might as well figure you were working your full 14 hours allowable.

 

I used to do that until I read the MSDS and am old guy scolded me (20 years ago).

Our local weather did not show how bad the freezing would be. Most people here don't think it be what it is, but it do.

 

But most would have found out real quick when they got onto any road in the area. If it’s not essential that you be at work or out no need to put your self at risk. If there’s ice when you pull out it’s going to be everywhere.

 

Lots of big rig accidents along your stretch of I 40.

 

I know where you’re coming from though. It wasn’t supposed to be that bad but it ended up being that bad. A lot of people think they can drive on it. They get a reality check real quick though.

 

You never saw Folks respect the rules like you do on the Ice Roads. Everybody knows you fuck up the road or be stupid enough to break it, you’ll be cryin’ like a Girl by Mornin’ from the beat down your gonna get.

 

It's just not a thing here. Hydroplaning is even rare here.

When I was driving in Massachusetts, ice was a guarantee under the snow and expected.

I think the Yankees here are arrogant and don't think winter affects apply and the locals don't know what black ice can do.

 

Yep, saw a big Dodge 3500 with horse trailer almost run a car off the road. By off ramp, just came over, didnt even look to see if it was clear

Agreed. I was more or less referring to crossin’ frozen bodies of water with great payloads. Lots cheaper than flyin’ it in come Summer. But yeah, respect, nature packs a punch.
