I hated it when two or three delivery drivers including myself were scheduled, and it ended up being a slow night; We took turns delivering, and sometimes one guy would end up with fewer deliveries and thus less money than the other(s).

On slow nights, I passed the time sitting in my truck listening to the radio and reading; The owner did not have a problem with this.

One time, towards the end of my roughly six months of employment, I literally walked out on the job because there were two other delivery guys and I didn’t think I’d make any money. I did technically end up getting fired, because my truck getting hit by a drunk driver just before Halloween in 2015 was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back...

Less than a month after sort of getting fired, the owner approached me and wanted me to come back! Why? I was his most reliable driver and apparently most of my complaints were legit!

One of the biggest issues was that other delivery drivers did not have reliable transportation; I lost count of how many times my coworkers would call at the last minute and say they couldn’t come in because their car wouldn’t start or was having some sort of mechanical problem that rendered it unusable even for pizza delivery.

And then, there was the fact that I had proven myself to be capable of performing multiple tasks; I just didn’t want help run the pizzeria in the owner’s absence on a delivery driver salary!

I am now on good terms with the owner of the pizzeria and go in there for a bite to eat from time to time (though I haven’t done that since before COVID).

The reason I started to doing Uber Eats, and DoorDash a short time later, is because I wanted a side hustle to supplement my income; However, unlike delivering for a specific pizza place or other restaurant, all I do is deliver the food instead of having to do extra work for no extra pay!

This is the same hoagie place in Warrington that I swore I’d never go back to after the owner flipped shit at me for not having my warm bag with me (the one time I forgot it); Now, I’m definitely not going back there ever again. The only reason I went there tonight is because I was making a pickup from the sushi place next door and it came up while I was en Route; Accepting this order doubled my earnings.

The owner wouldn't take my word for it that I had a large warm bag in my truck, and expected me to go back out to the truck and bring it in to show them; I already had the order from the sushi place in there, and it was haphazardly wedged into the passenger seat so there’s no way in hell I was doing that.

He then said “If you don’t have a bag, just tell us,” which really pissed me off; Don’t call me a liar, EVER!

I went out to the truck (they thought I was leaving in a huff), took this picture, and realized it came out blurry just as I got to the door...

So, I went back out to the truck and took this picture; Needless to say, they believed me (yeah, I’ve still got the motor oil that I picked up yesterday in there too)...

I gave the restaurant a negative review and specifically mentioned my grievance with the owner, and even though they know now that I have a warm bag, I will NEVER pick up another order at this place again!

I’ve done over 500 dashes all over the area, and this is the only place that makes such a big deal about the use of warm bags!

One of my stops today was a sober living facility; I thought it was just a normal house, and it was on a very busy street corner. I took a picture of the front of the place and texted it to the customer, asking if it was their house. I then backed up and noticed a mailbox with the correct house number, and it was about this time that an attractive woman came out with an adorable little dog. I handed the food off to her and started petting the dog, and when I started asking her about her "cool old house" she told me it was actually a sober living facility, and I was surprised to find out she was patient and not a counselor/admin...

Apparently, the facility kept at least three dogs there as part of the treatment program; One of the first things I asked this woman when she told it me was a sober living facility was "Like AA?" She said yes; I love dogs and think its great that they are using them to help recovering addicts!

    This week’s earnings so far...

    E9A1B181-ABD8-4D59-B66B-7783DF28442E.jpg

By the way, DoorDash is not my primary source of income; By day I work at a defense contractor that builds UAVs for both civil and military applications. My day job pays $16.50 an hour, has a 401K, and even has paid vacation time! DoorDash and Uber Eats are just side hustles!

I've always been a bit confused by the way they display it; I earned just over eight bucks tonight for three hours or so worth of driving around delivering food...

Since yesterday? Almost ten gallons in about 110 miles, but some of that was from idling...

I turn a profit even after gas money; My truck has gotten five or six oil changes since I started doing DoorDash and Uber Eats, and I had to replace a tire last week as you know...

Other than that, I’d say a Tacoma gives me a very high profit margin due to its reliability!

You don’t understand DoorDash because you make a fortune driving a truck, and you’re like Warren Buffett or Bill Gates compared to me!

Do they pay by the hour, by the job, or by the mile? I have some extra time on my hands looking for a second gig.
