I haven't driven it enough to give an opinion on mileage...but it does feel better. Looks like they get .4 hours labor credit for the upgrade - but no charge to me because it is under warranty.

I wonder if that is what I am seeing but honestly is a dream coming off the 17 as it doesn't do the gear hunt all the time

No regrets here. I can't find any downsides- highway mileage to my in-laws was the same as usual (a 75mph run down the freeway for 30 miles every Sunday). It's possible that city mileage is a little less but if it is the difference is subtle. Best of all I don't think about the transmission anymore, it shifts as expected.

I wanted to give a review after having about 1k miles on the new update.

    Summary:
It is a night and day difference with truck behavior. I put 13k miles on my truck in the last year and 1k on the TSB. I was going to sell the truck before I got the TSB that is how much I loathed the power train.

    Fuel Economy:
It is too cold for accurate comparisons on fuel economy but I got 16.2, 18.3 and 17.0 last 3 tanks of rural highway/highway in a snow storm with lots of remote starts on the TSB tune which is average for my truck.

The acceleration going from 0 is also much smoother and highway headwinds the truck uses 5th and will stay in the gear it needs while it needs it. 900 miles of 5 or 6th gears when it needed them and 4th only if called for. Before it was either in 6th or 4th and I was always manually changing it to 5th so it would hunting so frequently.

Best of all I don't focus on the stupid transmission and why its always in the wrong effing gear anymore. Is it perfect...no. Motor still has no torque down low, but at least it revs now so you can use the power it does have.

I agree. My 2016 after two tsb’s was 0k but, my 2020 is near as good as I could want. Very happy.

I am going in for my 30K in about a month. I may see if I can test drive a 2021 for the purpose of comparison before I request the flash.

You will notice a difference. I recently drove a 2019. While it drove ok there was a noticeable difference compared to my 2020.

Just had this TSB done on my early 2020 build. It was like pulling teeth to get the service advisor to say he was going to do the flash. In the end he wouldn’t guarantee it. Long story short I ended up having to involve the Service director. Flash is now done and the truck shifts like it should have from the start.

Wow I must have a pretty legit dealer. He didn't even hesitate giving me the flash. Just got it done 3 hours ago, and drove it like 30 miles.

    First impressions:

    Ride is smoother
Stays in one gear longer where before it would randomly hunt
Maybe a little more power in the low end?

Theres a little bit of a difference overall. Am I blown away? Not really. Then again I never had a problem with the transmission. Guess i'm just not picky.

Also no perceivable difference in gas mileage. Maybe too early to tell? Seems about the same.

I'm definitely experiencing some of the ass-dragging effect (technical term) people are talking about here.
Reading this thread with my coffee this morning, I called in and scheduled a TSB update, Entune navigation update, and I'm having them change my turn clicker to 5 clicks instead of 3.

I routinely carry a fair amount of weight to service appointments, updates to all 3 here should eliminate the majority of the issues I've been having.

I will say, I recently started driving in S5, ECT Power on, and it definitely does make up for some of the ass-dragging effect (technical term) this truck seems to have. Hopefully the TSB update improves on that.

I went to Oreilly's with a OBDII reader. Went into where VIN is located and pulls it up. It will show "Cal ID" with what you have. This is what should pull up:

Had mine updated and it seemed fine on a 30 mile run, less hunting and faster upshifting after climbing overpasses. This was with a 10-15mph tailwind. After getting groceries on the way home against a 15mph headwind it was worse than before the update. Went for a ride today and it was shifting all over the place without the wind. No consistency at all. Not sure if they did the TSB. Anyone else experience this?

@aleekat I think the one you saw at Toyota Care site is regarding the fuel pump recall. The latest TSB (T-SB-0092-20) on the other hand is a software (ECM) update that addresses most of the transmission issue (lack of power, delay/hesitation, and frequent shift change).

Doesn’t sound like they did. There is a noticeable difference. I enjoy driving my truck now.
