When you take out the banjo bolt from the fuel rail and there is no gas coming out then there is no fuel pressure. You sure you read all of my first post.

I did read the first post, not sure if where you measured is at the rail or the pump supply line.

That was my initial thought too. If that's the case, he should turn the key to the "on" position, and leave it there for a few seconds while the electric fuel pump repressurizes the fuel line, then turn it to the "start" position. If it starts quickly, he has his answer.

The pump doesn't come on with the key in the on position. They only come on when ur actually cranking. That's the way they are designed. Not for sure if the newer tacomas are the same. But I thought that they all came on when u turned the key to the on position, but not these 4runners. I found that out along time ago when I had to mess with the open circut relay. But it has to build up pressure when you first try to start after sitting overnight. And I've replaced the fuel pump. Also injectors and haven't found any leaks. I was wondering if the fuel pressure regulator would cause it to loose pressure while sitting overnight, if it was messed up.

Good to know. Guess that makes a failing fuel line check valve impossible to diagnose without disassembly. I'm used to working on BMWs with an in-tank pump, and an inline electric fuel pump. Once you turn the key to the "on" position, the inline pump turns on for a few seconds to ensure proper fuel pressure in the lines.

Yeah. Seems like most Ford's and chevys I've owned had fuel pumps that would come on when u turned the key to the on position. Actually most fuel injected vehicles that I have worked on do. Anyway the few things that I thought of that would cause it to loose pressure was the check valve, so I replaced the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel injectors, but it was loosing pressure before I did that. I keep thinking that maybe there's a leak somewhere under the truck that I can't see? It either has to be a leak somewhere or by some chance I got a brand new pump with a bad check valve. Unless it's in the fuel pressure regulator? And that's what I'm trying to find out is if it's bad could it cause the rail and line on the sending side to loose pressure?

Good deal. 98 tacoma with 378000 miles and she starts when I look at her. And this 4runner would start if it had gas in the fuel rail. After I get it started it will crank right up anytime through the day, it's just when it sits for 10 hours it looses pressure.
