Looking for some tail light guards for my 3rd gen. Not having much luck, anyone know of a place that sells them. AVS style or metal.

I was actually pulled over out here in PA for having those installed about 23 years ago. Stupid vehicle regulations.

    It's a crummy plastic stick-on. Don't do it.

I've had brush guards over the tail lights on my 2000 Ford Ranger. I looked for the same thing for my new Tacoma, but couldn't find anything comparable. To do any good, the guard must have a gap between itself and the surface of the light. If it's attached directly to the surface of the light (a stick-on), all it will do is transmit the damage.

The way the lights mount to the body I'm not sure if you will find anything actually functional, they will probably be cosmetic at best.

I would say 85% cosmetic. They saved my lights from damage on a couple of occasions.

On my Ranger, the guards attach to the tail light mounting bolts (that are visible when you lower the tailgate). They wrap around the light and rest on a rubber bumper at the outer edge. I don't see why this exact same system couldn't be used for the Tacoma. But, apparently, no aftermarket manufacturer has yet come up with this. The problem may be lack of demand.

They are 100% a cosmetic upgrade and offer no protection. I had some metal ones on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee back in the day. One side suffered an impact and the tail light still broke. Save your money IMHO.

They don't make a version for the 3rd generation Tacoma.

Sorry can't post a pic but if you build a truck online it comes with the premium package on the sport. Mine is a 2020

Tried it for the 2021 and no way I could get tail light guards, premium package or not. (The 2020 is no longer on Toyota's website.)

Why don't you call a dealer and try to order tail light guard for a 2020.

If there is an OEM option, @Jeff Lange would probably be able to find it. He seems to be the parts guru for OEM part numbers.

Edit the URL and you can get to it:

    https://www.toyota.com/configurator/build/step/model/year/2020/series/tacoma

But even for the 2020 Sport with Premium package, there are no tail light guards shown in the options.

And googling for "tacoma oem taillight guard" returns nothing.

I have never seen Toyota offer anything like that for any vehicle, I don't see anything listed either.
