Going to psychics and hunting Bigfoot won't hurt you either.

They are still just a waste of time and money.

Perhaps, but my point is that the guys who are chasing UFO's are telling the guys who go to psychics and hunt for Bigfoot, that they're wasting their time & money. In other words, spend $5K on suspension, tires & armor - you're a forum hero. Spend $750 on oil changes over 5 years and it's a waste of time & money? LMAO...OK

They're aren't just expected to go 30K miles, they are designed to go 30K miles...ours aren't. BIG difference there.

Because oil and filter properties are not specific to 3rd gen Tacoma’s.

Being ex-military; preventative maintenance became damn near a religion to me. We did stuff all the time on the submarine that was not needed but we did it anyway as everything had to work when Commies started shooting torpedoes at us. Now our trucks are certainly not in that "battle ready" category, but doing PM whether it is really needed or not just kind of gets in your blood if you know what I mean.

And not sure if anyone has said this, but I actually enjoy working on cars and always have! Sometimes I will change my oil or do other maintenance items just for something to do. But I have lots of time and expendable money on my hands these days, so there you go! :)

In a nutshell for some on TW

I off road to the extreme, but follow the service schedule like I just drive this thing to Kroger twice a week, but sometimes it's Wholefoods because the food there makes the spouse's turds smell wonderful

That line is so blurry. I have 2 vehicles. A 2001 Trans Am and. 2017 Tacoma. One was made in Canada, the other in Texas.

    TRUE! Good point.

My Taco was made in Mexico. I used to argue with my brother in law over this...the "buy American" mantra. I do - whenever I can and it's practical. The issue was always "dude...you drive a Hyundai" at the time. Yeah - designed and tested in California and built in Alabama, so How many more Americans are working thanks to my purchase vs. the car designed & built overseas - where it's just the dock, transport company & dealership making the money?

I agree with the OP on doing an early change first off, after that just read the owners manual...

My brother in law is perpetually stuck in 1950. Several years ago he chapped my father in law for buying a Sienna. I informed him that it was produced in Indiana. He had no idea and promptly responded by saying...."yeah but the profits all go back to Japan". Yep...that tired old rebuttal. I said "Yeah? Tell that to the 1000s of American employees who put bread on their family's table with that job. Those same people buy refrigerators, groceries, lumber, phones, furniture, houses, eat at restaurants, etc, etc....all contributing to the growth and quality of life in that community. And Toyota has invested so much money in the town's infrastructure."

I then took him outside and showed him the placard in the door jam of his Ford Focus....."made in Mexico". Again....he had no idea. I could tell he was pissed. What was his response? "Well, the profits go back to 'Merica".

Really? So lining the pockets of large corporations and executives is more important than lining the pockets of American workers.

He's real joy at family gatherings.

I bleed red, white and blue as much as the next guy. But we live in an economy that's global. Denying that is foolish. I'm for ANY company that invests in American workers. But I'm not limited to just that. My Taco was made in Mexico.

The line between what's "American" and what's not was blurred many years ago.

If you want to really blow his mind next time, remind him that Toyota's profits actually go to Plano, TX.

He wouldn't be able to comprehend that.

If you look at the communities where Toyota, and a lot of big industries for that matter, setup shop.....it's life changing for those towns. You should read the stories about Georgetown Kentucky and Princeton Indiana. The quality of life, the schools, the local businesses, the infrastructure.....all of it improves.

they are specific, when we are talking about a third gen that you can fill its cannister filter with oil before reinstalling, but you cant fill a spin on oil filter on a second gen, due to its upside down positioning. I know, as I have had both gens.
