I know a guy who has completed the Iron Butt Rally 3 times on a Sportster. His 2005 now has over 280k miles on it.

Definitely need to set your bike up properly.

I am in that rabbit hole with you friend. I definitely want to do a chain conversion. I would also like to get a hardtail frame (as opposed to hardtail-ing my current frame). Would love to get something with some ridiculous specs like this 8 up.

It's blowing out of the vent tube like it is overfilled. I know it was at one point since I filled it on the lift after doing the Hammer conversion. I drained about a quart off after the first time it vented, but now the level looks right on the dipstick when warm on the sidestand.

I don't have direct experience but if you have done an engine rebuild, this question (asked on hdforums by someone much wiser than me) may be relevant: Does the bike have plenty of power and a good idle supporting good no blow by compression?

I'd keep it. Decide if you truly want to sell once you move. I just went through this brain battle with my street tripler. Ended up keeping it and am glad I did once things finalized with the house.

It idles fine and has plenty of power. I'm still taking it easy on the new top end for break-in. It's hard to explain, but even doing slow pulls it is faster than before at WOT. I think once the break-in is done (and I get around to installing the Mikuni) it is going to be scary fast.

ETA - on paper, based on my communications with Hammer Performance, I should be looking at 110-115HP.

I put a 42mm Mikuni on my Buell quite a while back. Didn't so much gain any power but smoothed out the delivery of what was already there. Made it much more rider friendly. Bike has Andrews N6 cams, early Buell S-1 Lightning heads, Screaming Eagle programmable ignition box, Vance & Hines SS2R slip on muffler on Buell 2 into1 header and the Mikuni. Dyno showed just under 80hp to the tire when I had it checked. With some of the carbon fiber bits that replaced stock stuff it weight around 430 pounds.

Your bike should be a handful with that motor.

I've got the Hammer 1275 kit, ported and polished SE heads, 530 cams, Dyna ignition, and Thunderheader. Per Hammer, the CV40 will limit the dyno numbers to around 100. With the Mikuni 42 it should hit the 110-115 target. If I see triple digits after the dyno tune I'll be happy. I can tell right now that it is wound super tight. Partial throttle pulls to 4500 with the CV are already impressive. With the Mikuni at WOT? I might need to keep some spare underwear in the saddlebags...

13.1 degrees and snowing on my way in this morning  Set a new personal best commute low temp.

And I may have filmed it and talked the whole time :anonymous: We'll see if I can get the edit put together today or not.

Suuuuuuuuuper shoddily edited and quickly thrown together video from today's commute:

    Overall, not that bad.

Edit: it was also much brighter when editing on my phone. Sigh.

Dude, you're a madman, lol. Props for the commitment to riding. What do your coworkers say when you come strolling in with a motorcycle helmet during bad weather?

It's more a commitment to hating paying for parking

At first when the weather started turning I got a lot of "wait did you ride in today?"s, but now they're mostly used to it, the shock factor has definitely worn off.

14.0 degrees on the way home and snowing more. Had one butt clencher going over railroad tracks on a curve and then almost immediately after got cut off and laid on the horn. Didn’t go down though
