Nice! I don't think you'd be breaking the COC unless you had less than the minimum post count.

I got a sweet little drone for Christmas (it's not the annoying drone of mud tires on pavement, it's the annoying kind you fly). I also got something for the truck I can't wait to install.

I noticed that. I figured if he started with a rust free frame, it'd be fine if stored winters. Winter would make short work of it though. Sounds like you have experience with that issue. I'm sure you've seen the South Main Auto video too.

Lost my 95 Pathfinder due to that. One oil change everything was fine and the next oil change the tech noticed something was off, brought me out into the shop and put his hand straight through the frame. at every cross member the T joint was completely rusted through and being held together with rhino liner and thin filaments of metal. But from the outside it looked perfectly fine.

Yeah, rust sure sucks. This is the video I referenced. Totally turned me off of any undercoating that isn't oil based. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXvl9nt57Kg&ab_channel=SouthMainAutoRepairLLC

No problem. I still need to try some myself. After wearing it I wasn't real inclined to give it a taste right away.

For the record Toppling Goliath brewing is in Decorah about 40 min west of Lansing, IA. A bit too far off the path to hit while doing the TWAT, but maybe a fun stop if anyone is out that way.

I agree. I'm sure the waxy stuff they spray in the doors and body panels works decent enough. But no way I would get the undercoating after what I have seen over the years.
The dealer had already had something similar done to mine before I purchased it. Which was nice. I sprayed the underside myself with a PB Blaster product. We will see how that holds up, so far so good second winter in.

from what I've gathered any oil-based spray should probably be refreshed every year in the fall. especially with his harshest winners get in the Midwest and the fact that some of us do wheel our trucks

Oh yeah. Inside the doors, tailgate, and rockers you can probably get away with bi-yearly, but the undercarriage that gets water/slush spray, tall grass, etc definitely do yearly.

I suspect that a waxy vs oily coating has better wash off resistance.

I didn't have to do much more that a few touch ups after the first winter. I will check again come spring and fall. The stuff I used seems to have decent wash off resistance. Sticky though, the dirt sticks to it like crazy. Starting with a new truck it wasn't difficult to do initially, just took time.
I started by trying to find as many nooks and crannies as I could before spraying the larger areas.

This is what I used: https://blasterproducts.com/product/corrosion-stop/ We will see how it holds up over time.

I have come across people who actually take their truck on a dirt road right after getting the undercoating put on to get a protective crust of sorts. couple guys on YouTube showed reviews like that where the underneath look absolutely filthy but then they cleaned a spot and it was brand new frame

I would be afraid of the dirt holding moisture against the metal before the undercoating gets a chance to cure. Who am I to say.
This is the first time for me trying to protect the frame.
