Looking for ways to use high beams and fogs with factory wiring? Any plug n play options besides putting fogs on aftermarket switch?

Good catch. Thought I found this in the 3rd gen thread. Glad I didn’t try it yet.

I was going to try that but after I learned that the ECU controls the fogs as far as shutting them down when you have high beams on I gave up the idea. The only option is to wire them separately which I guess would require a new switch on the dash and a new relay. For me the PITA of this far outweighs the benefit.

Is there a way you could run them thru a Switch Pro type of setup?

AKA simply wire them to the Switch Pro and then you would have to activate them via the button on the Switch pro. Doesn't seem like it would be an issue unless "not" having them connected would create an issue in the ECU.

That’s what I do. I got the Baja Designs Squadron fog replacements and wired them direct to the Switch Pro. My Switch Pro trigger wire is connected to the high beam fuse and I have both my fogs and light bar setup to turn on/off with the high beams.

I haven't thought about using a trigger wire...gonna have to do some research on that one.

What I would like to do is run them independently of the stalk switch but also use them as safety strobes as well. I figure the SP9100 could handle that! We shall see! Thanks for the trigger wire suggestion!

I think @KTJO 4x4 is making a harness for this.

It can do all that. There are two trigger wires on the SP. One you wire to an ignition source and the other you can wire to whatever you want to trigger off of. Most people do high beams or reverse lights. It has multiple strobe modes you can program too.

Do you fogs work on the stalk as well with low beams on? And then they also work with high beams? Thank you...

I've always wondered why do cars turn off fogs when brights come on?

To meet legal regulations. It harkens back to the days when low beams and high beams were two completely separate sets of lights. I'm going to paraphrase badly, but basically you cant have more than two sets illuminated at a time (low+high or low+fog). Its supposed to keep the dum-dums from running their high beams in bad weather. Its also supposed to keep the dum-dums from running their fogs on a clear night, but I like using them to light up low-speed residential streets. :anonymous::anonymous:

Because using high beams in fog is worse for vision; reflection of water particles. So the assumption is that if you can use your high beams, you don't need your fogs.

Usefulness in fog also explains why fogs are mounted low. And being yellow is even better.

However, fogs have become more of a style statement than a functional item.
