Oh and I wasn't actually sure how to draw the relay as I wasn't sure if it was NO or NC. Unpowered, the relay connects pin 30 and 87a. What would that be referred to? NO or NC?

    That's NC.

But ya with the diagram, it's totally out of wack because it was parallel and now you're saying series and saying blue is switched which wasn't drawn

Is there any chance I could get you to redraw this without my errors, so I could save it?

It's actually BOTH parallel and series, which is the crazy part. Low setting is series, High setting is parallel. Maybe I can re-draw it better.

I'll see if I can figure it out and edit the schematic. Seems like a good thing to clear up for the forum

Here's the switch, I'll post a diagram showing flow of power next

    Should be right

Note Blue will be 50% of battery voltage during Lo operation, 100% during Hi; White will be 100% during Lo, 0% during Hi

Doh! I'm colorblind so the purple looks almost the same as blue lmao. Good thing I figured it out already :p

Haha well it wasn't easy on my phone either! But thanks a ton for the help and diagram.

I got the Doorman kit and you messed with me since I thought I knew how it worked. I marked up their schematic which appears to be doing the same thing you are talking about. Hopefully that little switch is properly rated since that is pulling all the power through it, instead of just using relays to power switch.

Routing in series for low side, then parallel on high side.

Ha yep, I banged my head against the fact that there was no power routed to pin 30 for a long time. It wasn't until I was testing it and realized the pinout on the switch is backwards compared to the rocker switches I've used in the past that it all clicked. Who would have thought of running the current backwards through the relay?

Doesn't seem to be the safest setup, but I've fixed the deficiencies and we'll give it a shot.

There isn’t any forward or backwards with mechanical relays unless they use a diode for voltage spike protection instead of a resistor. In fact, you can gang two 5-pin relays to create a reversing current switch(dpdt) for high currents. But yes, this was a confusing one and glad you got it figured out. Not sure I would have figured it out myself. Kudos.
