Magnuson Supercharger Mega Thread for 16+ Tacoma - Unboxing, Install DIY, Dyno Video

There are a couple people running around with tuner kits. I know there is a shop in Arizona somewhere that has a tune for it. Can’t remember where though.

 

Thanks yall.... I have been using vftune for quite some time but obviously don't know how a supercharger would need to be tuned otherwise wouldn’t be asking. I’ll do some more research and will take that route if Magnusson doesn’t end up helping.

How did you get it on sale? I don't see that price listed anywhere

 

R4T in colorado had a valentines day sale going (I think it’s actually still up - code is LOVEPARTS). I sent my gf to get it 30 min before they closed on friday so pretty sure he saw this cute small lady driving a modified tacoma on 35’s and paying cash so he hooked it up a little extra lol.

 

Haha smart move. I'm been watching and waiting for these to go on sale, not in a rush right now tho cause I'll be installing it in the driveway and I'm not going to do that in Feb.

 

That is a good price. I spent a month with one of their sales people negotiating. Told them I was in no hurry and was not going to pay asking price. URD sells them and had a 5% off sale before Christmas. I told my sales person they would have to beat their vendor price. Took a little time but we came to an agreement and I got the deal I expected. FYI - that price included sales tax, shipping and all the other BS you would expect them to load into pricing. Cash out the door means a lot to them when they don't have to worry about credit card kick backs and credit bs.

 

This was the exact same deal my wife got on my charger. $6200 OTD with tax and shipping.

 

I'm tempted to install the S/C, but I already have 150k miles on my '17. What you folks think? Too many miles and I should just run the truck as is, or go for it and enjoy the next 150k supercharged???

 

I don’t see an issue. Would be a good chance to install some new plugs, replace that sludged up factory intake manifold, and bring new life to the truck. Throw a catch can on while you are at it.

 

^^^ This, and replace factory serpentine belt and coolant while you are at it. Beats spending all that cash on a new truck and still not having a SC.

 

I say go for it. What the guys above said. New plugs , belt and coolant. My intake manifold was gunmed up at 50k can’t imagine what yours looks like at 150k. Anyways you’ll get a new manifold. After seeing the condition of mines I had to get the Jit oil trap. Its on the way. Stinking CARB had to ship mines to Arizona to a friend of mines to ship back.

 

2020 taco w 15k miles. 6 hr install w nephew (I fetched the dropped bolts) lol. Waiting to get new tune download. Couldn't find a brass plug or other in stated area. Runs normal so was able to drive home wo problems.

So you drove it home with the stock tune still installed? That’s my kind of risky. Accidentally going into boost would have been spectacular!

 

I am a fence sitter on this SC, I've wanted an SC since I bought my first Tacoma in 1998 but man $7k and its not tuned properly is really disappointing.

My wife even supports me getting one!!!!

I'll just creepily stalk the forums and see what happens.


UPDATE: I'm supercharged and I am really impressed with the results, software seems like it could use some smoothing but its worth it so far.

 

If you’re near Chesapeake VA, you could come drive mine and see if it’s your thing or not.
