    I'm on the volly :)

Ill be applying for paid this upcoming year.

Most of us live 2 miles or less away from the station, I live about .9 miles away, there is a way once I have can do code I can be there in about a minute.

Only one light the rest is gravy.

Now it takes me about two minutes LOL

    Edit

We do not have manned stations unless there is something crazy going on like a winter storm then we will have some people stay at station.

Two tabs coming off the mounting points on the top of the light (where the suction cup bracket used to mount). Then two screws up through the headliner with a retainer on each on the top side. Worked really really well and didn't move a bit. Also was so tight to the windshield that I didn't need or use the flash back guard anymore.

hunter?.....does your dept regulate what you can have for lights & do you have to be on dept for a certain period of time before FD allows you to run with lights on POV'S?

    Yes sir,

Your light (by the KY law) has to be visible from 500ft on the front of your vehicle... Thats it...

However everyone at our dept has lights 360 degrees.

Also you have to be on a minimum of 6 months and be certified AND have the chief's approval. If he does not think your ready then you do not get to run code.

I'm paid on call and we're required to have full 360degree view of our lights, no dash lights and even front and back strobes are iffy. So I'm trying to figure out how I will be mounting a bar to the roof without drilling a ton of holes. Willy Nilly hole stabbing wasn't an issue when I was running a 97 Dodge Ram.

As for our response, we're allowed to mount lights after being trained for 6 months and being put on the department as a full (non probationary) member. Lighting has to be approved by the Chief and like I said 360 degrees. We don't go directly to the scene, despite my objections, everyone (except Chief and Assist) runs to the station, boards a truck and then goes to the scene.

The only reason I see going to the scene first is if your trained EMT/Medic with your gear and their is a injury, besides that I dont see the point your tool box is at the station.

Yeah we dont have to have 360 lights but we do, it just makes more sense.

if my department had that rule id never be at a call, and neither would most of the members, we have a long spread out district in the direct borders of a city and alot of the members live a bit away from the stataion, im about 12 miles away but when you include traffic my average time to the station not running lights is about 20 minutes. but with one lane open and cruising the speed limit my response time is about half that, given that everyone yeilds. we cannot run stop lights though which i 100% agree with.

my taco has what i stated above, here is a pic of it, my dodge has much less and moves traffic extremely well (2 tir3s in grill and one dual talon in the windsheild)

We have a pretty big district, and I live on the border of it and pass a lot of calls on my way to the station. The biggest benefit I can see to going direct, atleast if you'll be passing the scene to get to the station, is to have someone get there quickly and give a sizeup so the other units know what is happening. Being a 100% paid on call means there are times that all our officers are at work and the first truck there is our pumper and we have no clue what to really expect. Our EMT's also are allowed to go direct unless they're going through, or live in town, then they're required to grab the QR rig.

Ripped my Excalibur off my old dodge last night and working on trying to figure out if I want to drill holes into the door jams to mount it and where I'm gonna run the wires in. I thought about swapping it out for something with a magna mount and a smaller mass of cable.

my fire dept is on the delaware-maryland line.....only officers can have dash lites issued by dept,if officer lives in maryland they run with red/white....delaware officers run blue/white dash only...........only fire-police can have roof mounted lites which is also issued by dept.....maryland fire-police cannot run "hot" to calls but delaware can, officers in both states can run "hot" only to station because each nite we have a duty officer and he run to scene with "duty officer" dept owned vehicle......everybody else runs with 4-way flashers or nothing

I would not use the 4way flasher, what if your changing lanes I would rather try and use my signal so they know Im going that direction just me though.

the 4-way thing is at driver choice.....nice thing is that most people due move over when they see us with 4-ways on.....I have amber warning lites on my truck due to the fact that most of our accidents happen between my house and the firehouse or in some cases in front of my houses and those are usally "jaws" worthy wreks

I just have a Dual Talon mounted on my dash. I also have a Yaesu ham radio mounted (screwed) into that. It serves as my scanner when I'm not using it as HAM. I have a 7.5 watt speaker mounted in the storage area above the shifter. It was only 15 dollars on ebay. I'm waiting until the summer to run the wires correctly.

I will be doing blue LED's in my headlights and reverse lights next summer when I can save some money.[IMG]

I think you can flip the light upside down, remove the suction cups and screw it directly into the dashboard. The suction cup mount also can serve as a dash mount. I've seen this done with one of our chiefs trucks. but I never took a close look to make sure.

I also consider doing it, because I have the radio head attached to it. When I press the buttons the light shifts around. Also for a slightly lower profile.
