OME BP-51 Install Report and Height Adjustment

Anyone running 35s with bp51s or is that not doable?

 

I’m planning on going 35’s next set of tires. I need to get all the caster I can get out of the current alignment, I’ve already done the CMC, flattened the pinch seams and gutted / trimmed the front splash shields.... I don’t see why it wouldn’t work... it’s a physical 1” circumference difference for me at the moment... if that

 

Sounds good. Yeah, only reason I asked whether bp51s and 35s get along was it seems everyone I see running 35s on the trail has long or extended travel shocks like kings and lifts much higher that 2-3"

What tires/wheels are you looking at for your 35s?
I currently have 33s (285/70/r17) on an 8" zero offset wheel.
My understanding is: if I get 35/12.5/17 tires, I will need at least a 9.5" wheel with a slight negative offset probably. Does that all sound correct?
I do have the adjustable SPC UCAs.

 

yeah, I’m basically running your same setup only 285/75/16... 0mm offset 8” wheel. I’m going 35x10.5x16 so I won’t have any offset issues. I want the height, not the width. Width is where many of the problems come in.

 

I know your post is rather old but I just wanted to provide some info for anyone who's dealing with same issue as you for the back being uneven.
When I installed mine in June I had the same issue mine was 1-1/4" difference from one side to the other.
After talking to ARB they sent me a new set of leafs because the leafs were the problem.

Don't do any spacers for leveling in the back since they are most likely out of tolerance from the factory.

ARB will take care of you.

 

How long were they installed? I just put a 1/2” spacer under my drivers side leaf to get it somewhat level, still 1/2” lower on that side

 

I called them immediately when I was done installing. I would just call them if I was you tell them what's going on but maybe don't tell them about the spacers installed. If they ask why you didn't call sooner (which I highly doubt they will) just tell them you thought it would settle and level out.

When I installed my bp-51s, I ordered the kit with the Dakar hd pack because I knew at some point I would have added weight in the back end. At the time of installation, I had no weight back there so I split each leaf pack, and took out the third leaf, making each one just a regular Dakar pack.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on a rtt so it looks like Ill be adding those leafs back in.



Ill also use this as an opportunity to do the u-bolt flip since I didn’t initially do that. Everybody seems to love the Timbrens, so I will likely go with this. Cant wait for the first thaw to get here so we can get out and go camping.

 

finally got around to taking measurements. Looks like I only net 1" lift with 12mm preload with a full steel bumper and winch up front and rock rails (ignore the rear, im not running OME suspension out back)
no skids on yet but they are sitting in the basement ready to go on soon.

anyone care to take a guess at what they think i should set preload to get to about 2.5" lift?
I figured I'd start by going to 20mm, but im surprised how low I'm sitting with 12mm judging by the other people posting in this thread.

 

If I remember correctly they have guidelines in the owner's manual for them as far as suggestions for preload for different components. I'll check when I get home in a little bit then update

 

I went with 18mm. Full relentless plate bumper, winch with steel cable, no skids. Got approx 2.5.

 

Here you go, ARB says in the manual to do 20mm for bumper and winch.

 

Well I cranked the FL to 22 and the FR to 18 and ended up at a 1.8” lift from stock.
I was under the impression the 20 mm for a 2” lift with the 150 lb arb bumper + winch would mean I would end up higher but oh well.

does anyone know where the zones are on the shocks? just want to be within the design spec of ride height.

 

My driver's front is at 30mm and passenger at 27mm.
I wanted rid of the rake. And I have 2x g35 batteries. Also bumpers winch, skids, sliders. I weigh in over 6k lbs
At this point I have everything on these shocks maxed all the way around out including preload, compression and rebound

 

Does anyone know the part number for the wrench to adjust the Rebound and Compression settings? I had found the part number at one point but lost it. I would also buy one if anyone has one they do not need anymore. Thanks!

Going to try and get my install done this weekend. I've got Nitrochargers and 887 coils on there today with full plate bumper, skids, sliders and winch. I'm thinking about a 3-4mm difference R-L is about what people seem to settle on and with my '15 I'm thinking 24mm driver and 20mm passenger. I've got HD Dakars on the back and thinking this will bring me about level, maybe a little forward rake.

Does this sound reasonable to those of you who've finished tweaking a second gen install?

 

Not really sure, everyone here is running BP-51's.
Maybe it translates to the same results though?

 

Sorry brain got ahead of my fingers. I've got the nitrochargers today but I'm replacing them with BP-51s this weekend.
