Attached to a house, it will require a transfer switch as well. Min 6500 running watts, the start up of appliances/motors pulls a lot of power. You will not be able to run HVAC or electric hot water heaters etc.

lol we're not quite out of the weather yet.

My renter has a couple older ones loaded on a trailer, condition unknown, they would probably need a tune up, drain fuel, oil change and new carb etc.
Although it will be a couple days I can ask him, I'm pretty sure those are for sale as well.

A little something every chance we get.
I was browsing Generacs again today for fun. Most of them, can't have one until June. But, thinking ahead....

Seriously considering raiding the retirement this coming year, in the summer when no one is buying them all. Want to upgrade some solar as well, but my "supplier" is treating me like a 3rd world country.

I’ve been wanting to install one also. Probably gonna do it this summer also. Gotta pour a slab first and build a shed for it that matches the house first.

Yeah, I know where it would go (which should be a hot tub, according to someone), and that has an overhang. But, I could put a nice little buffer fence between that, and where a tub would go. All the outdoor electrical is over there, so not a lot of choice, but a lot of old rock garden and failed pond to tear up.

Probably minimal, but similar to solar. Permit, and local license to install. Lockhart codes are pretty typical of small town Texas. Get a permit, and and Engineer to agree, and you are done. Seeing as I have the solar and electrical, tying into that should not be a huge issue, more typical will be a huge head scratch!

Dang, you just made me realize I have a plan! With things as they are with health, I will just tell her I need to raid my retirement to do the generator, redo the East section, tear out the old garden, and get her a hot tub under some covering , right outside the sunroom door. DANG!

Those are very pricey. I used to help my FNL many moons ago, doing side jobs installing and setting those up. I would never own one.

From my years of experience living near and North of Houston and gone through Katrin(14 days without power) and Rita(12 days wo power) to name a few, portable units FTW.
In natural disaster situations, your still better off with a portable unit. I have had friends with Generacs but thier house were comprised by wind/water, which makes those units useless if you have a damaged shelter, and those who had portable units may had the same or similar damaged to thier homes, were able to take the generators with them. They were able to connect with other friends and family who didn't have power or generator but had perfectly fine houses, but needed power, winner, winner, chicken dinner.
