When I owned a garage the common statement when someone wanted to bring their own parts was "you don't take your own meat to Dell Frisco's & ask them to cook it do you?"

 

In the mechanic world, is that an insult?

 

Not an insult so much as a shop has to make some profit on parts to pay the overhead, I personally didn't mind it so much as long as the customer understood no warranty! I would rather the customer supply their own engine due to cash flow & warranty but I supplied all the fur, plugs, wires, belts, water pump etc. I had a guy supply his own engine one time & he insisted on supplying ALL the parts so I installed his engine & he supplied a clutch it came back twice with a release bearing noise so he paid me twice to pull the transmission & replace a faulty release bearing. Best part is he bought the clutch the same place I would have so I would have ate that job twice

 

I think Jeep /Dodge is owned by Fiat now .
